1988 Mojave 250, need info
I'm helping my buddy with a '88 Mojave 250. Paid $700 bucks for it. It hasn't been ran in two years. It was having some carb issues. We are looking for any ideas on upgrades and things to do to it. Don't want to spend a fortune, but want to make it perform pretty good. Ideas on pipes, jetting, etc. Thanks a bunch.

Hey Bing,
Funny seeing you over here.
Yeah, it kinda runs. The guy said it ran when he stopped using it. It's been sitting for about 1-1/2 years. He said it would run fine, then the carb would act up once in a while (not sure what it would do). We are bringing it home in the next day or two. The guy we are getting it from wants it to run when we pick it up. My buddy knows the guy he is buying it from also, so he's got a pretty good history on the thing. Sounds like some lady in her 50's originally bought it and rode it for years. Then this guy bought it for his wife.
Thanks

I was thinkin it was strange to see you away from the Puget thread.
well, i would start off with a compression check, valve adjustment, spark plug read, and a complete fluid flush/change, new filters (oil/fuel), inspect all bearings, tierods (moving parts)
change and inspect the oil,,,remove carb and clean thoroughly(taking note of all jet sizes and settings)(to post on here for opinions), then reinstall (also be sure to have a good air seal on the intake and exhaust ports).
inspect brakes and hydraulics
replace all lubricants (all)
that would be a great place to start,,,,,and will make it easier to diagnose other issues if you have all that stuff figured out
be sure to inspect each bolt, re-torquing/antiseaze/or locktite where applicable.
oh yeah,,,,get a service/shop manual,,,,,they are worth it
the mojave guys should give you up and runnin in no time (i never had one,,,they were too small for me)
