Default 1987 Mojave 250 needs some work

OK, I had the wrong year. We are fixing up a 1987 Mojave 250. Anybody have ideas on Upgrades? Needs a new Carburetor, any suggestions? Any suggestions on a full pipe, jetting, sprocket sizes, etc. etc.?? Thanks for any input.

I dont have any personal experience with the mojave, but I have heard of people putting on the honda 400ex carb on the mojave and that it really gives it good throttle response.....you might be able to find a used 400ex carb on ebay for a good price. For a pipe I would recommend the Suppertrapp IDS2, I have it on my Lakota and it gave it a good boost in low and mid power, it also comes with the removable disc, so it is tunable for sound and performance. Another mod I have heard of people doing for the mojave is changing to the KLR250 dual sport bike CDI, I have heard that this lets it rev longer and also will rev faster (better throttle response). Since its an older mojave if your going to change the suspension I would go with something less expensive.....like maybe Works Steelers shocks (again you can probably find on ebay cheap), also go wider up front(+2 A-arms) and wider back (+4 axle), one last thing would be to maybe go with a longer swingarm (+2) as this will help you better when the trail gets rough at speed. Also would go with Razr tires all the way around. If I had a mojave and was going to mod it this is the way I would go, if you pick a lot of these items up used (but in good/excellent condition) I think you could do all of this for under $1500. I think it would be a ripping little trail machine, maybe not beating anyone in the straightaways but definitly keeping up on the trail. Just my thoughts, hope some of it helps

you could put a 330 kit with cam, 1mm larger valves, stiffer valve spring, hardened rocker, uni air filter, cams, .380 valve lift.
you can contact greg from cwr he has a lot mods for the mojave.

We have another issue. Rear axle is bent. Any good ideas on a new axle? Durablue maybe?

Also ideas on new full exhaust??

More questions to come I'm sure.

I agree with the supertrapp exhaust, the k&n filter with stage 2 really opened up the throttle response.

Supertrapp ids2 for pipe, durablue eliminator axle +2+4 for $290 from rocky mountain, clamp on filter w/outwears, rejet it and get razr's on the corners.

When i had my mojave i found that the K&N filter made a good difference!
I would also do the following
-Supertrapp IDS-2
-K&N with pre charger
-Durablue axle +2+4
-KLR CDI and valves
-20' Razrs on back
-13/41 gearing
-Higher comp Piston
And thats should be enought to get you started
