Old mojave! Good deal?
#1
I looked at a old mojave today that someone is selling. its a 1989. the frame is in good shape, and the engine seems to be running just fine for its age! the only thing is that the plastics are horrible. the rear fenders are destroyed and the front fenders arent pretty iether. i test rode it and seems to ride good for a 89. he'll give it to me for $800 if i act soon!
does this seem like a good deal for a 89 mojave 250?? i wanted a decent 4-stroke and there it is. are there any known problems that i should look for, that i wouldnt have noticed otherwise?? i know the bushings and bearings should be replaced, the engine was re-built not long ago! the rear shock was re-built too (?? so he said). i might pick it up for something to work on, and to mess around with on my property! any advice or suggestions would be awesome thanks!

around here in Central Ca. you can expect to pay around $1400 for a mojave in decent condition. You are basically saying everything seems fine other then the plastics, then it sounds like a decent amount of money. New plastics I think will cost you around $250? So, your still ahead. I know if I saw it around here for that price and everything looked good, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. Also, the mojaves are easy to work on IMO Dan

i thought about selling my blaster to get that used Mojave i looked at and MOD the heck out of it, but i figured i want something thats not so old and worn!

Don't mean to stir envy or anything- but just wanna let y'all know that I'm getting another 'jave tommorow. I won it on Ebay and it has no engine, and thats OK, because last year also on ebay I won a 'jave for parts- it has an engine but no shocks or front fenders. I plan to resurrect this thingas my 'normal' and mellow quad. I'll post pics when I get back- Have a good weekend everyone........

Took my 1991 for a little ride for the first time today and was pleasantly surprised with the power for a 250 4 stroke. Not bad at all.
Thanks right, bought it without even taking it for a ride. This quad does not start as well as my quadracer though. Can't seem to figure out the trick. Even when warm its 4-5 kicks.

Kwackerman, sounds like a nice project. I enjoy working on my quad, especially when it's to improve the ride.
Procomp, when i start mine and it sits around for a bit, what I found that works is, putting the choke 1/2 way, then holding the throttle in just a little, usually does the trick. To get away away from the kick start, been thinking of putting a Gocki starter on it.
