Default belt removal

Im trying to remove my belt like nyroc said and it just won't come off. It seems to be loose because it squaks when under load. Once I get the belt off by doing this will it have stretched? Will it be even harder to get back on? Should I just try my hardest to get it off?

Its not hard at all. Just use a breakover bar and run your driven pully counter clockwise while pushing the belt to the side, and it should just pop off. Just like putting a chain back on a bicycle.

I use a ratchet with a 27mm socket and slowly turn the drive pulley while guiding the belt over the edge of the driven pulley (like trailride says).

the belt does not stretch, it actually spreads the driven pulley when you do that.

Piece of cake.

It is just as easy to get back on.

Watch your fingers!

Thank you alot trailride and nyroc. Does it make a difference if its in gear or not? I try to take it off while in neutral(which I guess is right) but the thing just wont come off. I put a screwdriver under the belt and try to ride it over. Can you tell me if the belt is going to go on easy once its adjusted?

Leave it out of gear. The belt will feel like it wont go any further but it will , just keep turning. Useing your left hand, turn the pully counter clockwise while with your right hand guide the belt off. It will go back on in reverse but you will be doing this on the bottom of the rear pully. Have you looked at nyroc's tech tips at the bottom of his sig ? I think he has pics of this.

Put down the screwdriver. That will slow you down.

You do have to use a little english on the belt. Any average man could probably do it. You have to get your fingers behind that belt and tug on it while turning the driven pulley.

Use some force, but take it slow so you don't scratch the back of your fingers.

In order to get the belt started out of the sheave, I used a pair of water pump pliers to twist the belt like nyroc is talking about. Didn't see any marks on the belt from the pliers. My belt is a P700 belt and was too tight is why I was taking it off again. It goes back on easier than taking it off.
