i have to 2nd that

its smooth, stable, and gets her out of problems she doesnt even realize she is in,,,good bike,,,,check my pics of Julies scrammy.

Or you could try the trailboss 2x4 (similar) if you are working with a smaller budget.

i would also recommend the z250, 250ex for smaller wives who want something a little sportier

or for a more experienced wife a raptor 350

I agree with the Scrambler recommendations. before my V-Force, I had a 2001 Scrambler 500 4X4, with a clutch kit, it has pretty nice power, but still very easy to ride, and will go almost anywhere. You can find nice used ones for $3500-$4000.

Default Quad for wife?

Maybe you guys could help me out. I am riding a 250 Polaris Explorer 2 stroke which I am looking to sell to get something a little faster. I love the machine, it goes through anything and has been very reliable (great for a woman starting out) but I need to "graduate" to the next level. I still would like something that will take me anywhere without to much difficulty but something a little faster so I can keep up with the "men." I ride pretty well. I do want an automatic tho. Any suggestions? I thought about a Kodiak 450 but can't find them anywhere. Thanks!

Montie, it kinda depends on what you're lookin for. 4x4? Sporty? Ute? Just about every quad discussed here were pretty good contenders. I would look real hard at a Scrambler if you've been riding the Explorer 250. That's what my wife rides by the way. Hers is pretty hopped up, so she's in no hurry to move up.lol

MONTIE... I agree with FISHSLAB ... that if you've had good luck with the Explorer, & have a good local dealer, the next step would be a Sacrambler... The 400-500 cc will keep up with most quads out there, for casual trail riding... However, once most women sit on & drive a 650 / 700 Prairie, they really don't want to go back to thier old ride... My wife started on a 220 Bayou, & the moved up to our 300 Prairie, when I first bought our 650 ... she was mad at me for selling the 220, as the 300 wasn't as "fun" to ride, & the steering was much heavier on the full time 4 X 4... but once she go to drive my 650, she didn't ever want to get back off of it... I have done some things to the 300 to make it better fopr her to ride, but if you've got some seat time in that Explorer, & you're ready to step up, the 650 / 700 Prairies will as easily paste a permanent smile on your face, as it does all the "guy" riders...

the Honda Rincon, has also become a favorite of alot of women riders as well, it is easy to ride, fast enough to keep up, requires little maintenance, & is very smooth riding...

WOW...thanks so much guys (and women) for all your feedback on what quad to upgrade to. (Now riding an explorer 250, 4 x4 (2 stroke). A lot of suggestions on the Prairies. Are they easy to stear. I ride my hubby's trailblazer 600 sometimes and its very hard to steer. Anyone ride in upstate NY, tug hill area? Tons of great trails!

I do ALOT of snowmobiling in the Tug Hill area. 2200 miles this season. I have been ATVing there a couple of times. You can ride most roads in Lewis county. Lots of seasonal roads and 150 miles can be done easily in a day. Maps are available at most businesses. Barnes Corners Sno-Pals are hosting a SNIRT run on Saturday April 17. Here's a link to their siteSNIRT

My husband & I snowmobile up in the Tug Hill/Old Forge area everyweek as long as their is snow. Like to stay at the Freeman in Southern Tug Hill Plateau. But their ATV trails are endless, lots of challenges too. I haven't found anything better yet. Now all I have to do is find a new ATV to upgrade from my Polaris explorer 250.

As far as the kawasaki lakota it's somewhat like an automatic mojave. It has the same shape and is 300cc. It's a fun bike that you can get for about 3,500 or so.
