Dealer is garbage!!!!
ok its been a long battle bewteen me and my kawi dealer and today was the straw that broke the camels back.. i recently purchased a pink spring from epi and wasnt satisfied and thanks to you guru's i decieded to give it one last chance i called them today to order some shims. well at first the guy dindt have a clue what i was talking about and this was the head mechanic i was speaking to. well after i think he figured out what they was he quoted me a price of 4.80 for one that sounded high but what blew my mind was what he said next. he asked me why do you want to orde rthis yours cant be wore out yet. i explained its not and went through the whole spring thing he told me im wasting my money with those springs they dont do anything different that the stock spring gives maxium performace and adding more than the one shim is dangerous blah blah blah. well in the end he said i have to come to him with the exact part number of what i want and prepay for the parts cuz he isnt about to order somthing liek that and get stuck with it if i dont come pick it up. so im asking please where else can i get this shim whats its part number and how much does it cost...

Kawi shim part #92026-1603....they seem impossible to find IN STOCK at any Kawi dealer. Today I picked up the Polaris shims (part #7555899) that are just the same as the Kawi shims and it seems most Polaris dealers have these in stock. They fit perfectly in the "V". Price: $3.50 each.

I had almost the same problem, but with a P650. I took mine in to get the break-in service, which they say is required for warrant purposes. And I already had the black secondary spring. So I thought I should just let them go ahead and install it for me while they have it and check the belt deflection. I got a call from them asking what is this black spring I wanted installed and where does it go. I told them the secondary clutch and they said there isn't a spring in there and that some people replace the primary clutch spring with a red spring. I said there is too a spring in the secondary clutch or it wouldn't work. I actually printed out those instructions from Nyroc's site and showed it to them. After finally convincing them that the spring can be replaced, they then wanted to know why I wanted to do that. I went through the explanation about why it's important and then talked to them about checking the belt deflection. That blew their mind but I thought that hopefully they could figure that out. Since they were going to get to the shims anyway, might as well remove one if needed. They finally called later and said they were finished and for me to pick it up. After talking to the service manager, I found out that they didn't check the deflection or remove any shims. He claimed they could do something like that because modifications like that would void the warranty. I bought the service manual, but didn't have it with me. I wanted to show him the section in that manual where KAWASAKI shows how to check the deflection, how to adjust it by changing shims, and the shim parts numbers. If I would have had the manual with me, I'm sure I would have beat him over the head with it instead. Anyway, I did what I originally planned to do and built a clutch compression tool and did it myself. But since the manual had the parts numbers for the shims, I ordered them from the parts counter and did it myself. That's another thing I learned to do. Find out the parts numbers yourself and give it to them.

Yeah, most dealers are parts swappers, usually when a mechanic gets to the level you guys need, he either starts his own shop, or gets hired by a pro shop. In any event, you are back to dealing with either a new trainee or an old school dude who will not make mods other than what the book says is cool
Yeah, learn it yourself, cheaper, faster, and BETTER!

Dealer is garbage!!!!
I found a blooper on Kawi's parts website the other month. I used all the part #'s for the camo plastic for the P700 to replace my green plastic on my P 650. I gave them all the part #'s needed and waited. They all came in except the handlebar plastic. So again I waited. When the 2 pieces finally came in I went to pick them up........guess what.......I got 2 front pieces of plastic and no rear piece. I found this out when I got home. I waited about 2 weeks and took it back only to be given the runaround like Oh it's not our fault blah blah blah. Anyway I ended up having the owner call Kawi and find out what was wrong.
Come to find out, Kawi had the part labeled with the wrong part#. I know I don't really blame them they have millions of parts to keep #'s on but its a larger part than a screw it should be labeled correctly.
Just goes to show you its not always the dealers fault (although it usually is 99% of the time).
