Need some 650 info

Hi my name is mike and im new to this site, i have an 03 prairie 650, anyway heres a short version of my story, i bought it new and from day 1 it had problems and the dealer ended up puttin in about 2 grand in parts and warranty took care of most of it but at the start i only got about 55 top speed now about 59-60 but now i want more, my first question is if i put an air filter like twin air, new exhaust like hmf or pro circuit, and the new cdi will i increase my top speed by alot or like 2-3 mphs, i mean i dont want to spend about 800 just for 2 or 3 mph, second question is, is this cdi as great as i hear i mean a 250 dollar part cant be that good or can it, and will it hurt my engine at all. and last my plugs are black after all this is done i imagine im gonna need to jet, do you have any idea wat jets to get. thanks for any info you can give.

With stock tires your 650 should have hit 65mph or better. Someone correct me if i am wrong but i think a pipe will actually make you lose a little top end speed. I think the cdi alone will gain 3 or 4mph. IMO the cdi is well worth the money.

Dollar for dollar, the CDI is going to be the best thing you can do to your quad. It will add more power than all of the other mods, combined. If you have any doubts about this, just wait 2-3 weeks until the folks on this forum get theirs, and they will post their results. Mine should be here in a little over a week

If your plugs are black now your running rich now that will effect the preformance you are experiencing right now. I know that leaning out my Suzuki when it was running rich made a big difference. The snorkle and exhaust will lean you out and depending how rich you are now might still require you to jet up some. There are a lot of guys from your area of the country who can help you get a base line for what size jet at your altitude. The race teams are reporting that the CDI really wakes up the motor and as long as you don't let it run lean they are actually better for the engine than the stock CDI. I had my Prairie jetted for the higher altitude were I ride and it runs much better now I have hit 66mph with out any mods yet they are coming soon though.
