No matter. I do not yet know the outcome of the contest but it doesn't really matter. Brooke's mom has all the support I can offer. I will tell her in a letter, if I have the address to send it. In fact if you question my sincerity and the taste such letter will have, I will send it to you in the hope you will forward it. Better yet I will post it here. And I'll send it if I have the addy.
Dear Carla: A kind submitter to a special interest internet chat board (For off road ATV's) has taken the time to advise the readership that your daughter is a contestant in the Miss USA pageant. He has made mention of your medical condition, and it is my understanding (and I hope this is accurate), that Brooke has made it her theme in the contest the matter of awareness and understanding of breast cancer.
I would not have been aware of any of this were it not for the notification of this fellow, who I know only by his chat board identity. I do not pay any attention to pageants, and for myself care not about the placements, but it is enough that I am made aware that a good and kind thinking and feeling human being has suffered the misfortune of becoming afflicted with the bad disease.
It is to your daughters great credit that she has taken the matter of your misfortune as her cause, to work toward the understanding thereof. You must be proud, and very justly so. I do not know of any results of this contest as I write this, but it does not matter: She is a winner, and you have made a winner.
My greatest wish for you and your family is that you shall be granted strength to face your challanges, and that grace and understanding shall be with you all. You have my warmest regards.
Mike Stuart
