Default Prairie 650 running temprature

Does anyone know what the standard running temp is for a 2002 Kawasaki Prairie 650 is; at idle? I put a temp gauge on mine and was suprised to see it running between 190 & 200 most of the time. If I am running a pretty good distance or at night, it will float down to about 180, but that is as low as it gets. Is this the norm?

My 02 runs about the same
dont know if this is normal......i am not alarmed
My fan kicks in about 190
Kicks out around 175-180
Seems like it takes a long time to warm up
Sometimes takes 15-20 mins

Well, for my ride last weekend I did some elecrtical work and I must have grounded something out, because my fan wasnt coming on at all, so I just wired to a on/off toggle as a quick fix, so I dont know when my fan comes on till I replace that, but that is goo info.

Running temp on the P650 is aprox 190. It's mostly determined by the fan switch temp. They kick in at around 200-210. I personaly put a manual switch in parallel with the fan sensor so in the summer I flick on the switch as soon as I start it . I feel more comfortable seeing the temp stay around 180. Thats where it stays with the switch on.

I sometimes have to deal with trespassers and poachers that use 4Wheelers. One thing I will do is stop and listen to get a fix on them. The fan running at shut off makes this a difficult task.
Why do the fans need to run after shut down? And what if they did not?

Do the holeshot mods make it run cooler or is it just the new cdi.

Even when the motor is shut off heat is still being radiated. Since the vehicle is no longer moving there is no airflow over the radiator to help cool. If the coolant temp is above whatever the fan switch is set for it will continue to run to prevent a boilover. Even cars with electric fans do this.

The holeshot will not lower operating temperatures as they do not change the timing of the motor like the cdi does.

The Holeshot Module will help to run the engine cooler at 3500 RPM's or lower (Idle) but will have no effect in mid-range and up. It only sets the timming straight for low range only. The setting back of the timming does tend to heat up the engine more.
