Default Putting New CDI on Stock 650

Has anyone done this? I have an 02 that in stock form is plenty strong enough for me.I have seen reports that with the aftermarket cdi they start faster but most importantly they are running cooler.
That is the primary thing I would like to achieve.I have never had an overheating issue (as long as the radiator is clean) but running cooler would be nice. I guess the question is could you slap one on and go???? no messing with the jets or anything????

Kodiac, if your prairie isn't starting quickly, you most likely need to richen your low speed screws. This is something almost every prairie owner has had to do, or else they just blindly think prairies are cold blooded, and put up with the popping when cold etc..

It's hard to speculate at this point if the CDI will require additional jetting or not.

FWIW, I noticed my quad ran noticeably cooler when I switched to the amsoil 0w40 synthetic ATV/4stroke oil. You can also use some redline water wetter in your coolant to reduce temps if you're concerned.

It starts ok and I have adjusted the pilot screws,it's funny. It will pull start without even touching the gas but when cranking I usually but not always have to give it just aa touch of throttle.I did add the water wetter too.I have never seen the hot light on mine...(except when powering up) but I got to believe cooler is better.
As far as oil I have always used Castrol 5w50. I have used that in every quad I have owned.....air and water cooled. With that range I feel you get the best of both worlds and I like the synthetic better.
Rock ,let us know how it goes!!!!!!!

Did yesterday exactly what you are thinking about. The only previous mod was a k&n air filter. Shaved two seconds off O to 50 mph after install of Dynatek. Ran just fine power increase was very noticeable. I'm thinking that the two seconds shaved off would maybe mean aboutfour or five machine lengths ahead of stock without Dynatek. Read my thread dated 4-10 for more detailed info. If I can help you or others thread to: tersha...........I will pass along what I have learned. No backfiring thru carbs either slow accelerate to 50 mph or wot from dead start. Go ahead, put your Dyna in...........have fun!!!!!! I don't know about cooler running. ck running temp. before and after Dyna for you to know for sure. Use a candy making thermometer for instant readout, before and after, kindly post relults, me wanna know too. Now, there you are........ tersha
Be prepared to buy more tires more often.....
