Default Amount to Save for Prairie

That's it. I've got my heart set on a used 650 or 700 Prairie. I'm getting a job as soon as school's out for summer and workin my @$$ off. I've already got at least $3500 going for me, how much do I need total for a used 650 or 700 in decent condition? I had $4500 in mind, is that accurate? If anyone especially in Illinois can help me out on the going used rates around here (from individuals) or even if you possibly have an offer, I'd love to hear from you.

Come on now, it seems like half the people on here have Prairies. Nobody can offer my any advice on what to save up to?

Buy one of the local truck or auto trader magazines; which ever one carries motorcycles and ATV's. That's the best way to find out prices.

I think you're pretty much on the money with the $4500, but watch out for those mods. A lot of guys replace the tires and front springs for starters. You don't have to, but young as you are, you'll probably be taking corners fast and the aftermarket tires and progressive springs will help you stay right side up. Try to get one with the tires already replaced but not ridden hard. As you know, sometimes these bikes are just sitting around somebody's garage like exercise equipment used 5 times, great shape, blah, blah.

A guy on this forum found one a 2 or 3 months ago female ridden in their yard with about 10 hours on it for $4700 I think it was. Advertise in some papers that you want one. I wouldn't go thru a dealer necessarily. Good luck, let us know how it's going.

I've seen them from $4,500 for a '02 up to $5,900 for a '04 700. I should have bought the 700 it only had 51 miles on it.
