Default Not to be Disrespectful

I'm 6'5" 220lbs. Granted, I have ridden a sport and I do fit, but I wasnt very comfortable. So in part because of my size. I picked my P650 cause it can do what a sport can do basically, plus I have 4wd. Alot of the trails I do I ride at less than 15mph and constantly shifting with a sport would kind of be a pain to me, plus I see them get stuck alot when they ride with us in the snow.

You guys with your utility quads get so defensive. All Tecate4fun did was ask a question and you bite his head off. And for all you non-believers I too have seen 2-strokes go where utility bikes can't. One because they are about 300 pounds lighter and two becasue they are faster. If you get enough speed up I have seen sport quads skimmer on top of large bodies of water and mud that would swallow even the baddest utility bike. Can your Praries do that?

Guys did get defensive because the question implied that a utility was inferior to a sport like it was only for old people who were afraid of going to fast. I did mention that you can't water skim on one (Though I wouldn't bet against that 90 plus MPH prairie of Alltoys if he wanted to try it) but other than that I think the statement was stupid or uniformed. No doubt Telcate has a very nicely restored sport quad, and would like to own it myself although I would still want to own my Prairie too. But the way he asked the question sounded like a slam. I can promise you that there are lots of places I can ride my Prairie that you can't ride a sport quad. I have gone and seen places on my Prairie that you just couldn't get a sport quad to. I can also drag a Bull Elk back to the truck with my Prairie.

Not all of us "race quad" guys disrespect the utility bikers though. To me it just sounded like he was curious. I don't want to start a fight but I have been up every hill , mountain, river crossing, and gorge my step dad has been on his utility bike. Sometimes it's actually easier to get their on my 250R because 328lbs. is a lot easier to manipulate than 700lbs.

If I seemed defensive I'm sorry, didnt mean to come off like that. We're all riding so we're all having fun. I just stated my reasons and my observations. We all have different tastes, some drive trucks some drive sports cars. All a matter of personal preference, but as long as we're all riding who cares what kind, what size, what brand.

Gtchief, you didn't sound defensive at all. You replied in a respectful manner. Some of the guys on the other page had posts with some hostility though. In the end we all ride quads........

I'm not trying to be hostile just making a point this reminds me of something that happened a couple months back. I and a friend who has a diesel pick up were talking to some young guys we know who drive those little Honda CIVIC cars with the chromed ash can for a tail pipes. Kids were pretty proud of their cars and a couple had put alot of work into them. They got kinda cute about how it was dumb to drive big slow pick ups. My friend tells them they would be surprized what a big truck can do. One of the kids decides that his Hopped up honda will show him. My friends truck has a Chip an exhaust and a propane NOS injection system. The little honda is pretty quick but not a match for a truck that can easy smoke all four tires. Bottom line the honda would win a race down a canyon but the truck could drag the honda up the canyon while the honda was trying to go down the canyon. I wouldn't challenge a sport quad to race on a MX track but I would challenge one to try and follow me up a rocky rutted trail full of rocks bigger than pumpkins with ledges 12 inches high. I love sport quads too, I plan on buying a V-Force as soon as I can but I will still have my utility too. I would like to own a Corvette too but not if it means I have to sell my diesel.

No argument there! I hate Civics and love diesels. I'm 20 yrs. old but I grew up around big trucks, muscle cars, and 250Rs. My step-dad has a '99 F-350 4X4 diesel with a chip and exhaust that has run 14.21 at our local drag strip. Not to mention its raised 6 inches and rides on ''35s. Maybe we sport and utility quad guys can live in harmony after all!

All quads have their place, some can just be used in all the places! We were practicing tonight for up coming harescrambles on the Prairies and one of our riders was taking the 50ft plus table top and landing on the downside of it. The Prairies do fly and are fast. When we went to the 6 hours of atv America Texas race we finished 13th out of 26 teams that were there, we were in front of 12 teams that were all on sport quads!

Well... I'm sorry I missed all the action last night... Though I think I see a wrinkle in Tecate4fun's comments.... he said "UTILITY" atv's... As all of us Prairie owners know... the Prairie is not your tipical UTILITY Atv.... It is a true SPORT utility atv!!! As I said.. I ride with sport and utility atv's all the time. And I can say without question that I have NEVER seen a sport go anywhere I can't take my prairie... but I've pulled out MANY sports trying to follw us Utility bikes!!! btw... the Prairie is 600lbs....NOT 700lbs!! Your thinking of a Polaris or AC.

As we've all seen and read... and as Prairie owners know.... The Prairie is a totally different class of bike!
