Default My ITP Dilemma

I would want to put 26" Mudlites on a Prairie 650. However, I have heard they wear really quickly on this particular machine. Do 589s wear better than Mudlites? Would I be sacrificing my sportier ride a lot by gettting the 26" 589s instead of 26" Mudlites? I still want to slide in the loose stuff, but want to seriously hook up in the slop. Any suggestions?

I like the 589 for the most part. I have noticed the fronts wear about 10 times quicker than the rears if you ride at all on asphalt or concrete. I do this alot since I am trying out new performance stuff so my fronts have lost 20% or so tread as where the rears still look like new. I can easily slide with these tires they are very stiff and the sidewalls stay put unlike some other tires. plus they look awesome.

You will like the ride and feel of the mudlites much better. If you ride asphalt then you prolly need to get the 589s.

Mudrunners wear a lot longer than both of those tires and bite through slop just slightly better than 589s. They ride pretty good too. and handle excellent for a mud tire. They are durable. They do not hook up on drypack as well (you can't have everything). You might consider them.

I have had my speedometer up to 64 with 26" mudrruners on. I was on flat pavement racing and beating grizzlies, and SP700s. I guess I also passed a bunch of other stuff that wasn't worthy of mention.

Mudrunners have made me a believer in them. I've got over 3,000 miles on my 26" set and I would say they still have over 90% tread.
But most of that was w/ no hard pack riding, mostly logging roads. And I have walked right through spots where 529 useres were stuck.

The mudrunners will give you the best milage, the 589 I find heavy but they are great in snow/mud. I'm going to put 26" mudlights though my tests this summer on mine 700, I got them at a price I couldn't refuse so we will see how they do. I like the weight of the mudlights. You can slide the 589 you just have to be extreamly carefull because they can bite hard.

My brother flipped his Kodiak down a hill when his 589's bit hard, and launched the bike off the trail!! My other brother has had alot of similar quirks witht he 589's being unpredictable at biting ruts, or muddy trails, and launching the bike in an unintended manner. He's made the comment several times that the 589's go where THEY want to go.... For me, I'd rather have my tires go where I point them!

589 on a kodie... That's dangerous is what I'm hearing.... I couldn't believe it so a friend that flips his bike more times than he has gone out loan me his Kodie to try and I must say the 26 or 27 inch 589 were worse on it than it was on the P650! You have to take caution with the 589 but you still can play with 589. I didn't flip his machine or anything but twice I did some funny dance moves to keep it on the trail. I'm wondering about the out of round problem and the 28 are fine. I can spin my 650 around on a dirt road with my 28 on it in 2 wheel drive.
