650p or 700p drive & driven sheaves ?
does anybody run the 700p drive & driven sheaves in the 650p?
i see the part # are different, do the sheaves have a different ramp to them and what would be the results? ( i.e. would it give you more low end or high end)
i know the 700p belt is better than the 650p belt. has anyone located the dayco belt? i called advance auto and they said that #hp2018 wasnt even in their system. advance auto parts do carry dayco, but no prairie belts.

650p or 700p drive & driven sheaves ?
I'm not positive, but I believe the '03 - 650 & the 700's are the same... I have replaced my inferior '02 650 clutches with 700 clutches... the differences are so small I don't really consider it a mod... however you are correct, that the 700 belt is a definate improvement...

newbeatle,
Someone a day or two ago said a clutch kit from EPI or Dalton was the best power/dollar that could be done to a bike. When you say the differences are small, do you mean power or design? Would a clutch kit give similar results to the 700 clutches?

KAWI... to buy the new 700 Primary & secondary clutches is much more expensive than anyones clutch kit ( my '02 secondary was worn in the bushings, bad enough, that it started eating belts... I had / have intentions of remachining my old Primary, so I ordered the pair as a set... it was like $800.00 with a belt... you can purchase alot of aftermarket CVT tuning for that much money... I honestly thought the "new" CVT set up only restored alot of what was missing, with my worn original set... the V Force primary spring is considered much better than the 650 or 700 Prairies, also there are litterally 5-10 different usable springs, from several manufaturers to choose from, all of which will improve different performance aspects of the Prairie...
I have a good friend that has a fresh factory rebuild on his '02 650... he has a "specially" tuned EPI clutch kit ( his buddy / service tech, was personal friends with the Erlandson family )... this tech does snowmobile clutches, & went back & forth for over 2 weeks, trying to maximise the CVT performance on his quad ( I think they even replaced his clutches with new ones, & installed the 700 belt )... he raced a buddy of his a few weeks back, with a brand new / stock '04 - 700... he got smoked... ( sorry, long story, but it obviously wasn't me that thought the clutch kits were the best bang for the buck )... I don't however believe that the new stock CVT was that much, if any better, I believe there was a much bigger difference between the '03 & '04 CDI, & the older ( 2 plug ) '02 CDI, & coupled with the 60-65 cc more displacement, was what these guys witnessed...
FYI... Comet will be releasing a new clutch for the Prairies any day now, that has a claimed increase in performance...
you can read more about them here...

650p or 700p drive & driven sheaves ?
i just checked the kawi site. 02 650p # to 03 650p # to 04 700p# are all different.
if their isnt performance changes i think i will stick with the stock 2002 sheaves.
that comit clutch might be the way to go, alot cheaper.
