STAKK... you are correct ( at least on the primarys ) the V & P 700 primarys are the same... a little different than the 650's... I'm not sure about the secondary springs...

There are subtle differences betweent the 02 and 03. The driven clutch bearing is an oillite bearing it will fail if not looked at once in a while. The helixs are slightly different, the slope on the front movable sheave are different. The 2 stage slope allow for faster movement of the belt, almost forces it up faster than the 02. The 03/04 will ramp up faster than the 02 especially with an 03/04 700 belt. Where the bolts are on the spider for removing the weights on the 02 are very close. If you do not have special sockets that are very thin you will not be able to remove the weights. I had to machine old sockets thin enough to get onto the nuts. The newer clutch does not have this problem a normal socket will fit. If I wanted to have better performance for dragging then I would get one for sure. Just for messing around it is not worth the expense. A 700 belt will do better for you than an 03 clutch.

Once a new clutch comes out I would take a good hard look at it I hope the helix can be changed on the Comet system!!!!!!!!

THE 03/04 PART # ARE DIFFERENT for the drive and driven sheaves. does it matter?

alltoys

IYO. would i see any gain with the newer drive and driven sheaves? i need new sheaves, old ones have groves in them. just trying to figure out what to go with. would any of these sheaves fit on my 02p?

If you are wanting to spend money on a clutch then wait till Comet comes out with theirs. For the mean time get a die grinder an electric one that will turn at 30,000 rpm. Get a mandrill that will fit the size of die grinder this mandrill will have a shaft with a round rubber top perpendicular to the shaft that fits into the die grinder. Then get a fibre like a brillo pad wheel almost like what wifey uses on the pots and pans. People who work with stainless steel use this type of fabric to put the grain back into the steel once it has been welded or repaired. These pads are sold at the same store that you can find the die grinder at. They screw into the mandril the mandrill gives the pad a solid backing to keep down the deflection as you put pressure onto the sides. For now you can use the abrasive to cut away any grooves that are there. Try to use as big a pad as possible to keep from gouging the surface of the sheaves to much. If the grooves are very deep then they will have to be machined but still cheaper than a new clutch. Grooves on the sheaves rob performance.

The part numbers are different from 02 to 03/04, they will not work together as there are subtle differences. Repair it first then wait till the Comet comes out.

When I put my clutch kit in my P700 the other day, I used the dealer's compresser and done a thorough look at my clutch, Now it only had 450 miles on it, but at that mileage on my '02 650 I already had to adjust the deflection and the sheaves were wore slightly not much but a little, the 700 had NO wear what-so-ever on the sheaves and the belt was like new condition and within spec....matter of fact I pulled a brand new belt out of it's bag and could not tell the difference between it and mine with 450 miles on it....So, they have done some durability work on the clutch and belt set-up for sure......

STAKK... I said this clear last summer when I was testing belts... the more "diamond" shape of the 360 & 650 belts are more conductive to both sheeve wear & belt wear... I wondered why they were that shape from the 1st time I saw them... the more "wedge" shape of the 700 belt, has a broader contact area, & should hook up more positively, & reduce wear on both the belt & the clutch sheeves... I doubt if there are significant improvements to the cluch, although there could be... I'd suspect that what you are witnessing, is just a very much improved belt, from the "old" 650 belt...

Has anyone contacted Comet clutch to see if the KEBC will still function with their primary? I guess I will find out for myself.

KOD;

If you contact them, ask what the angle of the sheaves will be. Thanks

Shotgun, I did contact them by email and here is the reply I got. I didnt ask them about the angles as I didnt think about it.

Tim,

Thanks for your reply.
You are asking several questions so I will try to address them one @ a
time.
My intentions are to have clutch out by mid to late summer.
This clutch does not have engine braking but will work fine on EBS
systems.
Obviously you will be giving up the EBS feature. We have been selling
our
Polaris clutch to people that have an EBS system and the feedback is
the
increased performance is more than a fair trade off for the EBS.
We do have our own calibrations(spring & arms)but our clutch can be
fitted
with clutch kits in addition to stock (Kawasaki) arms & spring.
The OEM belt will work on our clutch.
Last question- I cannot tell you the price as of yet, but I can tell it
will
be considerably less expensive then the $550.00 price for the OEM
clutch.
Hopefully this helps !!!

Thanks
Dean Sproles

I was satisfied with this answer. Unfortunately I wont be using the clutch because of the lack of KEBS.
