A Simple Primary Clutch Mod for P650/P700
It is just the '02 clutches that are difficult to remove the weights, because of clearances around the bolts... in theory, the extra weight removed from the '03 & new clutches should also help, as they must be lighter, by removing the additional material by the screws...

Kawituner,
The clutch will hold up I have run 125 hp through my modified clutch without any problems.
Mikey,
Like Shotgun menchened, try drilling holes then die grinding out the excess of the spider it will help. If you do not have excess to a mill then leave the vanes alone it will have to be balanced after machining this is what I have found. If you get rid of the EBC it will also help with rpm just remove the shaft from the actuator then replace when you need it. All the functions will still work on the dash no flashing EBC light.
Newbeatle,
I had the same problem with removing the weights, sockets were to big to remove the nuts. I machined old sockets to do the work but it can be done by turning the sockets in a drill then hold them up to grinding wheel till they fit. It works. The 03/04 clutch also have a different slope on the moveable sheave on the front this helps for a faster ramp.

If the best weights you can buy are only guaranteed to be within +/-5% weight of each other and if you can run two different gram weights in your clutch (across from each other), that why I'm not to worried about being out of balance.
I agree with the Dalton clutch plate, but some of the Prairie Guy's still want their braking.

By throwing the clutch out of balance it will cause the the bushings to wear out faster. The point that am trying to make is that it it isn,t worth sacraficing the integrty of the clutch to save weight. All those holes are just a crack waiting to happen. But you can do as you please!
