Problem with my P-700...help...
#11
oil looked almost new. I thought coolant too, and it's right where it should be. It seems to be running good now, with no more white smoke. I'm relieved. That's the first time I've ever had one of my quads into a dealer....and it'll be the last. Lesson learned this time. Thanks.

Since the oil appeared nearly new that would pretty much rule out coolant leaking into the crankcase which is good news. It would be very difficult to overfill the crankcase with oil due to the way the fill point is the same as the check point. You mentioned that gas was running out the exhaust and that the engine was "flooded". Since it would not turn over with the starter and was hydrolocked it appears to me the problem was gas draining through the carb and filling the engine through one or both cylinders.
In the owners manual for my P360 under "Fuel Tap" it advises to turn the fuel off when "transporting or storing the vehicle". Perhaps more importantly was a post I read, here or elsewhere, from a person with first hand knowlege that advised to turn the fuel off anytime the engine was shut down. I also read that it is advisable to shut off the fuel and then let the engine run the carb dry if the machine is not going to be used for several days. This prevents buildup of fuel deposits over a period of time.
You seem to feel this was the dealerships fault and perhaps it was. From what you have written it would appear that the fault is with a leaking carburator. You, of course, know your dealership and I don't. The dealership I have been dealing with has, at least so far, been square with me.

Gas leaking into the cylinders will not cause white smoke. I have filled the cylinders with gas before on both my V and my P. They have never smoked. Check your old oil and see if you can smell gas off of it.
I'm certain the problem was to much oil with a combination of gas in the cylinders. Some people run their oil on the lower part of the dip stick to avoid these problems.
I never turn off my fuel, I have only had gas in my cylinders when hauling my quads on a long trip. They have never filled up just sitting there.

I absolutly agree that gas burning off will not make white smoke. I do believe, however, that a crankcase that has been polluted with gas coming down thru the cylinders and overfilled will then force the excess mixture thru the crancase vent system back into the engine intake. This mixture burning out would cause the white smoke. What do you think?
In the case at hand PADZZ stated that he had ridden the 650 "about 3 time" prior to the smoking and hydrolocking problem showing up. If the crankcase had been overfilled at the dealership would not the problem have shown up sooner?

This is the exact reason why us Praire owners don't fill the oil to the top. Gas gets in the oil. It seems to happen to all the V-Twins, the shut off valve doesn't work to well. Usually we don't get that much gas in the oil to care about but in this case it might have been enough.
The V-Force has a shut off valve too but its hidden behind plastic. So this means Kawasaki knows that valve is basically useless and there is no reason to have access to it. Thats why I just leave my valve on all the time, just start it up once every few days.
