k&n air filter install on 03' kfx

k&n air filter install on 03' kfx
is it absolutely necessary to jet the carbs like the instructions say after i install a k&n air filter on my 03' kfx-400? the instructions say i MUST...are there any short/long term effects if i don't? or do they just want me to lay down more $ for jets?
