Stuck cable? Air leak in carb?

while my chokes were sticking there was no adjusting the idle screw, the carbs are getting so much gas that no mater how much you adjust the screw it just does not help. its designed for a minor adjustment, and when the carbs are working it can make a big difference.

Cool, so I need to get some new springs. Are they hard to change? Do I need to remove the carbs? I checked my plugs last night and they are black as can be. I wonder how the springs failed...hmmm. Are they exposed to the elements? If so they might be dirty or have some sand in them.

Bbertram, the choke springs are pretty easy to change. If you check your manual, it gives you step by step instructions on how to take your choke cable off. I changed mine when I was rejetting, so it made it pretty easy. I put in choke springs from a KLR 650. They were about 2 or 3 mm longer, made of larger diameter wire, and were way stiffer. Cured all my choke problems right away.
