Primary clutch nut
#1
I'm trying to replace the clutch in my nephews 300 bayou and it's so tight that I've spun two shaft keys on the pull start side trying to hold the shaft. Any ideas on how to remove this nut would be most welcome.

Hey I was wondering if you found a way to get that nut off. I just ordered a set of friction plates to put on my Lakota and I'm sure I'm going to have a problem getting that nut off alos so any tips you can give me would be very much appreciated. Thanks

Do you think this can be done without an impact wrench because I dont have access to one. Not to sound stupid here but what does an impact wrench do that a normal wrench cant. I'm really hoping there is a way to do this without the impact. What did you end up using in order to keep the primary and secondary gears from turning when you were taking that nut off? Sorry to ask so many questions but thanks

woodsnut,
An impact wrench "shocks" the nut, helping to break it loose. There are inexpensive impact wrenchs that are not air wrenchs. You hit the tool with a hammer and it then "shocks" the nut. Check out Auto Zone, Napa, Sears, etc.. and you should be able to find one. It is a very handy tool to have and highly recommended for anyones' tool box.
Good luck

I tried it with a regular impact that you hit with a hammer but it didn't work so I bought an air one, I've wanted one for some time. Before I bought it I spoke to a local auto shop that said if I had it ready to go they would loosen the nut.
