Default Help! Building motor....

I did the math, and I would only get 4 extra cc's. Stock is 76mm bore, I can only find a standard piston, or .020 which is only 76.5mm which would net me 294 cc's. Not worth it unless I have to get it bored. Do I have to take it to a machine shop, or can I buy a caliper that is acurate enough? I wouldnt mind buying a caliper, as Im about to build a motor for a car......

hmm, port the heads and bore that puppy out and i bet you notice the power gain..just a thought..and you want a machine shop to do it..it cant really be that expensive to have it .020 over bored...it was just a thought, being it was out of the frame and all..

Most likely sense we are talking about a 87 model you need it bored. Bring it to a machine shop whom does this work and have them mike it to give you an idea on what over you will need to go.

The problem with engines with that many hours/miles on it is the bore becomes out of round. This will be the graetest performance loss.

To put it in prospective for you, a lakota takes the same 76mm piston. I did a 80mm piston job on mine and this gives you a 15% power gain, give or take. Now the lakota is what 13.9 HP. Ok do the math and think what you would gain with a high dallor bore job like that.

Just have it checked atleast, most likely they will charge you nothing to look at it. Bore jobs are about $50 give or take, it's with out doubt worth your time.

wiseco and pro-X both make a aray of piston sizes. Ebay is not realy that graet of a deal in this area.

Do a search on "ATV Salvage yards". Thier is one in Kentucky that has these parts. Also go to kawasaki.com and cross refrence all the bayou line, mojave and lakotas gas cap part numbers. You will be very surprised to find out that probably all kawasaki gas caps are the same, if not I am very sure several models use the same gas cap. This will give you a variety of models to search ebay and salvage yards for.

Cool, thanks guys.

Gaff: where did you buy your piston kit from or where is a good place I should? I cant find an 80mm piston, is that not too big? What is the biggest you can go? Ive only found like a 76.5 and 77mm piston. I looked on crosstec.com...any good sites out there? I figured out a 80mm would equal 321cc's, thats 30 extra cc's, Im sure it helps out a lot. Also, I wouldnt mind raising the compression, but cant find any pistons to do that......thanks
