Default Help! Building motor....

I have an 86-87 Bayou, and with what I thought was a 300cc. The plastics and VIN say 300, but I started tearing down the motor, and the cam sprocket says like KF250 and I think 220......is there any chance I have a 300? Like as in they use the same sprocket. Doesnt look like my chances are good to having a 300 cc motor.....I also need to order the rebuild kit, any suggestions? Good thing I didnt order before I tore it down. Thanks

Oh yeah, the diagrams for the 300 are exactly the same as the motor. Would a 220 or 250 have the exact same shape head, etc.? Thanks

Dave

Default Help! Building motor....

I found .29L, Im guessing .29 liters is 290 cc's? I looked at different pics of pistons, and the 250 was way different, I guess its a 300(It looked the same)? Then why doesnt the cam sprocket match the one in my Clymers manual? The one is the manual says 300, this one says 220 and 250.?.???.. Thanks

It's quite common for the kawasaki cam sprockets to have one or many different normaclatures on it, the kicker is they usually don't have the motor that your pulling it out of on it.

You have the 300 motor, the 220 is considerably smaller, the newer lakota 300 motor won't fit in the monts, and the mojave is water cooled. If in doubt give the VIN# off the motor to your dealer and he will tell you exactly what it is. I know of no other motor that would fit that quad with out major frame work.

OK, so should I just take the cylinder to a machine shop and have it checked out, and see if it needs to be bored over, then buy a kit off of ebay? Im just reringing it, and new gaskets.

Also, does anybody know where to get a gas cap for the tank? Ive been watching ebay, and a tank and cap went for $100. I only need the cap......
