"old" Prairie beats DS 650 in 2wd mud drag...
#1
well I went to the Hayward MN mud races yesterday... It was the wifes birthday, & my work has been hugely busy, & I didn't have the chance to switch my quad over from the drag racing set up, from last week end... So I went with the intention of just helping the wife race... ( I did bring my quad, & my Zilla's, just in case I had to defend the Kawi honor, from some smack talking off brand owner ), but I was really about 2-3 hours of switch over labor away from mud racing format... well... I got goated into entering the big bore 2 WD class, which consisted of several V Forces, A built Yamaha ( I think warrior ??? ), & a DS 650... maybe a few others, so I blasted home in my wifes pick up, at the last minute, & brought over my set of 22" X 12.5" X 9" TSL's, ( for the rear, & left the stock fronts that I had on from drag strip ), & quickly mounted them up ( bear in mind, I had no real intention of racing... I only had 3 bolts in my CVT cover, from quick changing springs at the drag strip, & didn't even have my CVT exhaust boot with...
Well I got lined up beside the DS... the pit ( for the 2 WD classes ), consisted of about 6" of mud, with a firm bottom, & a "jump" in the middle of the 150' pit ( there was 3-4" of standing water on top of the 6" of mud, on the other side of the jump, & there were 2 pits, side by side ( the south pit was consistantly slower, but, each racer ran once in each pit, & their times were added together )... I started in the ( slower ), south pit, & the DS & I were pretty much side by side, until we hit the jump, & he sucked water, on the landing... on our second run, when I was in the fast lane, I hit the jump with enough speed, that I went into the air, 4-5'... I had enough time, to "kick it out" free style, ( sideways across the pit, while in the air ), & bring it back to "nearly" straight, before landing, & still beat him by about 1/2 of the 150'...
WARNING... V Force owners, & any Prairie owners modding your air box... If you get water into your air box, you will get water into your oil though the crank case vent, which runs directly from your crank case, to the bottom of your filter box...
over all, for the 2WD classes, the timers got all screwed up, & comunication as well, & they asked all the 2 WD quads to run again, after they dumped a fire truck tanker load of water, into the pit ( to prepare it for the 4 X 4 classes )... well, not wanting to lose ( what I & everyone else believed to be ) my 1st place position, I lined up to run, knowing full well, I'd get my belt & clutches slimey, at the least... none of the other 2 WD competitors from the big bore class, were willing to run ( the V Forces all had water in the oil, as previously mentioned... well I ended up ( some how ??? ), with a second place trophy ??? but know, with out a doubt, that the "ol Prairie, is capable of putting a little whup azz on the DS...
My wife, was able to win the powder puff, beating a 600 Grizzly, with a gal, with as much expirience mud racing, as she has, on our lil' 300 Prairie... & while entered in the 500cc class, with the lil' Prairie, she beat the guy in the fast lane, from the slow lane, but then the quad began acting up, with either a fuel or electrical problem, & she had to drop out...
sorry, no pics... I'd have wished someone had gotten a pic of my free style jump, as it seemed to impress everyone...LOL...
