BF Jetting Advice Needed
I'm admitting off of the bat that I am a jetting newbie. I have no idea what I am doing but am not afraid to tackle new challenges, like jetting. It looks like Kawi tunes their ATVs for sea level. Well, I live a 2500ft. and quite often ride up to 8000ft. I don't want to run lean as that can damage the engine. What the heck do I need to do to make sure that the carbs are jetted properly for my altitude? I saw the article at Nyroc's site, and while thourough, it is slightly confusing because of my lack of knowlege of carb technology. It idles fine at any altitude so I don't think that I need to mess with the mixture screws. When I pulled the plugs to check the gapping, they were not "a slitch shade darker than white" as indicated in Nyroc's aricle. They are "a slitch shade closer to brown than white." I don't want to hurt the engine, ya know? I am more than willing to learn to rejet, but I need a prod in the right direction
On a related note, the manual says that the belt is adjusted for sea level as well. What do you need to do with the belt to adust it for higher altitudes?

I called the dealer and he said that the BF is jetted for sea level. He said that he just got the microfiches for the BF and will be able to get me the jet numbers for my altitudes tomorrow. He also said that jetting is relatively easy. You only need some good screwdrivers. Any advice gurus?

You'll get more rich as you go up in elevation.
The Brute has a different carb arrangement than the P700. They look to be a little more challenging to get at in some spots.
The belt itself isn't adjusted for high elevations; the clutch is. The optional parts are lighter weights and shims to raise the stall. If the engine seems to run flat on your highest trips then consider it. Otherwise, just run it as is. See how it goes.

The high-altitude clutch kit is not really needed. DWB is correct by suggesting to wait & see how the BF performs before you make the change to the clutch. I had this Clutch kit installed on 2 of my Prairie 650s b/c of the higher elevations that I always ride at. On my Cat 650, I did not do the Clutch kit & by comparing the 2 for clutching action, I can't tell the difference. Both the Cat & the Prairies belts have been shimmed to the correct setting, so I have the same throttle response/no belt slippage.
Jetting I went with a 1 step increase on the P650s, seemed to work fine even as high as 13,100 feet. I tried doing a 2 step increase on the '02 P650 which were 130f/132R but the P650 was hard to start, then I dropped down 1 step & I still had the hard starts, finally I dropped down 1 more step & everything work great. I plan on having my dealer go up 1 step on my BF 1st, just to see how it works out.
I ride all the time at the 7,500- 9,000 ft range, I'll let you know how it runs after a 1 step jet increase, of course you will have to wait awhile, as I don't pick up my BF750 till August 7th & I will be riding at the 3,600 ft elevation on the 8th. Won't be untill the following weekend before I get back to my riding elevations of 7,500+.
