I am in desperate need of swing arm bearing replacement and was just perusing Nyrocs site on the info..and i must say..^%&$ing no way..that looks like a monumental pain in the sack...but Im gonna try it anyhow..
1st..does it require 2 sets of bearings..ie left and right side?
2 how do you get the zerk installed? drill it out and tap?
3 how do you know if the swing arm has been damaged and in need of a machinist?
comon guys give me some help here...lol..i havnt got 200 bux or more to give my dealer to do the job..Ive seen the bearing kits on allbalz and there not expensive i just dont wanna make any big frilling mistakes and end up at the dealer begging for help(like my wife says will happen )
any other pic you guys know of would help greatly..and where can I obtain a brass marine plug to seal the shaft?...I hope im not making a huge mistake here...

Calm! I didn't realize that tech tip was so intimidating. C'mon, you couldn't have fouond my part of the contribution too difficult (the foam)? If I can spray, glob, melt, or spread smething on to fix it, I will. I played with my elmer's glue when I was in 1 thru 3rd grade.
1. 1 pair of bearings, one for left and one for right. Yoou should replace the orings in there too. You may also need to replace the collar thingy, since if a bearing went bad, your collar thingy is banged up. I have a used seal, oring, and collar that are all still as good as new if you find yourself in a huge hurry and the dealer can't get it fast enough.
2. You have to be a decent machinist to do that zerky business. Either send your stuff to masterblaster to do his trick, or use the expandable plug that Jim suggested, or do the foam trick (using something to keep the foam from expanding into the bearing area, like a big socket that fits it perfect). Take your pick. The foam works well especially if you clean the inside of the swingarm well so it will stick. If you try to use a marine plug, you should ask a boating store or an automotive store. I don't know anything about that stuff. I just used foam. I can't weld aluminum well enough to do what masterblaster did. You don't need to make it greaseable. You just need to block the backside.
3. If the outer seal and/or bearings won't stay installed because the swingarm horn has been buggered, you may need a machinist to fix it. My swingarm had minor scratches there but it didn't keep the bearing from staying in or the seal from sealing.

LOL,thanks for the input nyroc...just seems like a huge project for 'lol ole me'....and I know a dealer would want to bend me over a barrel to do it.50 bux in parts 200 bux in labor..lol..im still gonna look into doing it myself..maybe the dealer will give me a price break after i get it all taken apart for them...lol

The main job is very simple, no need for a dealer. The optional things are the tough part.
Just make sure the drive shaft stays in the swingarm at all times because it it slides out far enough it exposes the rear diff to get dirt inside. You could carefully remove the shaft, take the spring out and then put the shaft back in so you could wash the inside of the swingarm out if needed. If it a good idea to change the dff oil after washing out the housing.

ok,so the kawi parts diagram shows races and carriers on both sides..being that im there already should I replace both sides being that its just the right side thats clunking and shifting? and does the parts from allballs have everything I need to do the replacement..my dealer says its about a 3 hour job at 60 bux an hour labor rate..BULLoney...

Get two bearings, two seals, two orings, but you most likely only need one collar.
The fact that you are clunking means that probably one collar is beaing beaten by the swingarm housing and the swingarm housing is being chewed. If you haven't clunked very far, the housing will still be useable. I know that a machinist could fix it. if it was ruined anywya.

I called allballs on the phone. I ordered most of my stuff from ronayers. Then, when I realize I had gotten dirt in my rear diff, I drove to the dealer to get a seal and an oring. Going to the dealer to get parts was one of my biggest mistakes. they suck. They ordered it late, then when one part was backordered, they said they would mail to to me. They never did.
Anywho, allballs says they have a P650 kit. If they don't, order online. Get part # from buykawasaki.
