Default Dayco & Kawi 03 P650 Belt Comparison Pictures

I have an 03 P650 with just 45 hours on it. I am trying out the HP2018 belt for Dayco. I am posting The Belts Side By Side Pictures.
It looks like the Dayco is wider having more contact surface due to the extra width and the fact there is no top cogs. The space between the cogs, and the top edges angling away from the clutch on the Kawi belt gives up some contact surface.
The less rubber in a belt, costs less to produce. I think Kawai supplied a belt just adequate enough to work, for a while. As for those speculating the cogs prevent heat, I feel if the belt dont slip, it don't create as much heat.

I want to add that both belts seemed to have the same deflection. Much more than an inch. At least 1-1/4 inch. I'll be removing a shim or two I guess. How much thickness should I take out?
How did you guys find your OE belt deflection to be from the factory and how much thickness did you remove? I'll be taking mine into work and doing the process on a press.

Thanks a lot for those pictures. A few weeks back this was exactly the type of info I was looking for on the Dayco belt. I couldnt find any satisfying info and never bought a belt either. My belt was on the loose side from the factory. I made my first belt after only 75 miles. My deflection was around 31mm and I removed one .024" spacer and it dropped the deflection to the lower limit. Mine has seemed to work out just right.

The belt does look wider. How about the length. Can you measure the belts with a string and then measure the string or take some pictures comparing the length somehow? I would really like that.

Thanks again fo the pictures.

KISSSOFDEATH,
Lucky for you (and me) Dayco sent me 2 belts. I did the string measurment, marking a crossed section with a marker and they are exactly the same OD. I'll find a way to do the ID soon.
Now for an update.
When I parked it after the hard run it wanted to creep lightly in gear on the cement pad, both in forward & reverse. No belt noise was heard. I did idle it up the other day looking for a better gear selection effort. I need to get into that too. It is shifting better though. I'll have to wait until tomorrow when it is cold to see if I had it idling too high or if the belt does this when it's warm. I does feel softer but not by much. On my first test I ran it slow and it did not creep when I got her home. It NEVER creeped before. The OE belt is much more flexible than the Dayco in it's in the un-ran condition and the slight added stiffness may be the contributor to the creep. Hmmm?
I'll have to pull the cover and look at the belt's top edges because I am wondering if the OE belt's beveled outside top edges are for the purpose of not shredding on the top edges of the driven pulley when moving in and out.
Top Speed? It's 60mph on a slight down hill black top with 26" ATR's @ 4.0 & 4.5 PSI's. That's down a bit from 62. I am 6'2" & weigh 245.

So are you saying you lost 2mph with the Dayco belt?

It looks like I did loose 2mph. Who knows, maybe the Speedo was gonna click up another mph. From 55mph it clicks up pretty slow.
However my motive for the different belt is for cost reduction and longevity. I rarely ever go that fast.

TheRock,

Turn your belt inside out to measure the ID.

... LOL, O.D. I.D U.D. HOW. D. ... Hey ROCK... do you have a measurement of the narrowest part of the belt, & the angle on the belt ??? I'd like to see a pic of both belts turned inside out, & side by side...
