Default Mojave 250 shift shaft

I just picked up a 2001 250 Mojave for cheap, but the shift shaft is all messed up. the idiot owner before me welded that shifter to the shaft and now the shaft is breaking. Will I need to split the cases to replace it, or can it be done by just pulling the right side cover?

If you can get the shifter off all you have to do is take the right side cover off, the foot peg, kicker and water pump. Then you should be able to see what you have to do. Make sure you order a water pump gasket with the shaft and the clutch cover gasket. If you have trouble I have done it a few times so just give me a hollar.

Ok, thanks for the heads up on the water pump gasket. I have changed the shift shafts on other bikes, so I'm sure I can get it, just wanted to make sure. Thanks for the help.

Ya it's easy. You also must remove the clutch which is easy.

Order your parts now....I had to wait like 3 weeks to get mine when I ordered them.
