Default Should deflection be checked after break in

Hello
Recently purchased a 03/P650 with just 49 miles on it
Someone told me that the belt deflection would need to tweaked after 100 mi or so--Im at 160 now
No serious problems but it has squealed slightly twice when in a unexpected hard start in high range
I'm new to this belt drive stuff so any advice would be apprieciated

Thanks
Steve E

Also is the fuel milage as bad as it seem to be?
Im getting about 60 miles before the light comes on

It wouldnt hurt to check it. My P650 needed attention only after 79 miles. Mine probably came extra loose from the factory. But, if something is wrong the belt will surely let you know.

KOD is right, I checked my belt at around 50 miles, and it was WAY loose. I set the deflection and have been flogging it ever since. I've checked it twice more and it hasn't moved in 400 miles.

Adjust it tight and it will last longer. If it squeals a little at idle, ignore it. If it squeals at takeoff it is very bad. It makes the pulley wear faster.

Always drive in low range unless you have to go over 30mh, you belt will last longer. Put the epi black spring or the dalton secondary spring in for longer belt life and especially for bigger tires.

Never try to move with the belt wet. Winch it to dry ground and rev it in neutral to blow the water out. When it is dry just keep riding.

Just curious here....are you sure it's an '03? The '02's had a fuel light, my '03 does not. There is a belt light there instead of a fuel light. Was reading your post and was just wondering. Thanks.

Steve E,I just lost a belt this weekend and with 3000 km on the 04 P700, I should have done better belt maintainence. I only had it checked once and that was at 175 km. My gas mileage and performance went down the dumper the last month or so and I know now that it was the belt. Live and learn
I also want to give K.O.D.'s website congratulations. It is a fantastic learning tool.
