Wondering if anyone could give me some advice on what to look for on my 2003 Prairie 360. Las winter I rode it one day and ran great, tried to start it in the morning and nothing. Compression check showed only 30 psi so I figured it needed work on the top end. Took the jug off and everything looked fine. Started to ask around and was told it was probably a bearing on left side of crankcase. So I bought a service manual to start digging in deeper and now I cant get the bolt out from behind the recoil starter to get a look at the good stuff. Has anyone had theirs apart that could give me some info on how to get it off. Is it loctite on their or what. thanks for the help.

 

I have an 03 360 that had a problem with the left bearing. The engine siezed up while I was traveling about 20 MPH. This was while the machine had very few hours on it and was covered under the new vehicle warrantee. Apparently there were a number of these engines built that had the left bearing improperly installed in the case causing the failure.

Considering what the mechanic told me I really doubt that this failure would have caused loss of compression. Sounds more like you may have a valve or piston ring problem. Did you check the valve clearance prior to tearing the engine down?

Can't help you with your bolt question, all the work was done by the dealership mechanic who did an outstanding job.

 

360's are notorious for exhaust valves going tight. This causes stalling, poor power, and of course, low compression readings.
