Look Out For The Outlander 800
#1
Talked to my dealer about a new King Quad, he also carries BRP. It seems that Bombi is interested in actually getting back into the open-class 4x4 race again, and for some odd, unknown reason the Traxter, Quest or whatever its called 650 just wasnt cutting it...I wonder why. Anyway, He said to expect an Outlander 800 released early next spring, using a similar engine to the V-Twin 1000 in their snowmobile line. He said the major delay is in strengthening an SST frame enough to handle the extra weight and torque and the larger mill. After hearing this, I did a little research on the i-net and there is confirmation of these rumors, and that the new engine will have EFI. If this is true, there is no doubt that this quad willl be a major contender to de-throne the top dog at the time (probably the King Quad 700). With Bombi's legendary reliability and innovative design strategies, I'm really looking forward to this. Don't get me wrong, its not like I'm a BRP freak or anything (I have a Prairie 700, Yam Grizz, and Sportsman 700), but if this quad is released I'm the first in line. I'm sick of my Kawi's constant breakdowns and trips to get the belt light tripped (money grabber for Kawi), but the new Brute Force has enough appeal to me that I might just have to sign up for another round with Kawi. I'm replacing all units for my business this fall and next spring, and need a fourth as well (I'm an oilfield contractor). I'm expecting to get a Brute, King, and either an AC H1 or SP 800 EFI (Polaris is just as unreliable as the Kawis). However, if the Outlander 800 comes out soon, I may consider switching my whole fleet to them.
What's the opinion out there on the performance of such as machine if released? Does anyone have any more details?

I'm shocked: "I'm sick of my Kawi's constant breakdowns and trips to get the belt light tripped (money grabber for Kawi)"... Is this the only problem you are having; I have been dealing with this aswell but my dealer is not reseting the light, It's something I do in about a minute on the seat of my 700. All you have to do is unplug the belt sensor and swap 2 wire connectors up under the plastic next to your shifter for about 16 seconds with out turning the machine on. I also found that if you file the belt sensor switch a little it will make it not so frequent. Really you don't need to take it to your dealer for this one! Get your dealer to show you, if they will not then find a new dealer! THAT's INSANE. If your switch is being tripped than talk to your dealer because that's not normal!

Hey - thanks for the tip. I JUST found that trick out a few weeks ago when my Kawi dealer was too busy for me and I took it to a nearby Arctic Cat dealer (he taped to the switch shut). I like the Prairie, but honestly it has given me nothing but grief. I'd take it in every 100 hours to reset the light ($150 a shot), the computer in the dash has f*#ked up three times (more downtime for work, but warranty covered it), the front driveshaft repalced, the 4WD actuator repalced (dealership did not warranty it even though I paid $800 extra for Goodtimes warranty for 2 years), and a belt. Thats only after 2800 kms. Comapre that, for example my Grizzly. Its gets worked harder, and has not cost me a cent in 3600 kms, besides a CV boot I stuck a stick into. I'm slightly bitter, but when I read these forums everybody says they are great. Even after all that, I am serious about a Brute for the coming year, just beacuse its hard to argue about its features and power...

four words of advise: find a new dealer. I personnelly don't like the tape because it can damage a belt if it come loose, filing is so easy and clean, unless you mean he bypass the belt switch. Keep in mind the tape makes the belt sensor not to work so keep a close eye on your belt! Never seen a front driveshaft go on a P700 that has been properly PDIed, loose motor mounts caused that one in the past so check yours. Your dealer should have claimed the 4x4 motor, call kawi on that one, but things might be different because you race it! I like how some dealers don't adjust the belt properly and charge you for a new one... but that's life. I have over 5K on mine orginal belt on my 700, make sure you use low range etc... All Kawis I had has been strong. Can not comment on your dash computer never seen one go! An also not to pi$$ you off but kawi canada had a promo from last Oct to last may (I think) that the GTPP was included, so you shouldn't have paided for it! Look into it atleast that's what Kawi had here when I got my P700 and 800 for 2 years is high because I paid 637 for 3 years on my 650. If you are not going to change dealers atleast go and talk to the owner!

My only concern here is when you said BPR is looking at a power plant for this new quad similiar to their sleds...Bombarier/BPR/Ski Doo has a notorious problem with rings on their snowmobiles...they have a HUGE fail rate at about 500 miles on their machines...now i own a ski doo and love it...but I am replacing mine as i dont want some of the problems encountered by others that just waited for theirs to go before replacing. This is well documented and noted by everyone except BPR...who has begun to replace them but only the rings and only with stock replacements (knowing they will fail again shortly)...Now the fit and finish, handling and performance of the ski doo Rev is outstanding ... but if you concerned with the Kawi belt light, the ring issue would definitely come into play as it is by far a larger problem...one guy on the ski doo forums rings went bad and scuffed up his pistons but BPR would only replace the rings...he bought a separate piston from an aftermarket vendor.
Also, their sleds are two strokes, very effecient two strokes as they are the closest manufacturer to reaching 2010 EPA standards with THEIR 2-STROKES. But dont see them using a two stroke in a big ute...for maintenance, EPA standards and other reasons they will more then likely put a 4-stroke in a large ute and I am not aware of any of their sleds using a four stroke of that size...but then again I am mostly familiar with their mountain sled line. It would be nice as the competition is heating up...but i thing that King Kuad 700 will be hard to beat...Suk is on a role lately in dethroning long standing champs in the ATV product line (recon with ozark, 400ex with z400, Pol 500 HO with Vinson, eiger doesnt really outshine the kodiak or the Bomb 400...but come price/performance comparisons it is the better value)...Suk is just as hungry as BPR.

Kawi650 is right, I think your problems are more dealer oriented than the P700, All quads seam to have a quirk here an there, but thats bad. Its sounds like there parts changers not mechanics. It sounds like you swap quads more than me, and I usualy drop 2 and add 2 every year. I will say your the first person I have ever herd put kawi and polaris in the same contexet when talking about reliabilty. I put kawi up at the top of my list when thinking of reliabilty just under honda. I ranked them below.
However, I think it also depends on what model in what brand as to wich I think the reliabilty is better in one line vs the other. I think #1 though #5 are all realy too close to call. A/C seams to be catching up in the quality game, However I think Polaris is making some headway in quality control also but I think that Polaris has bit more to go befor I will trust them agan. How would you guys rank them

I've owned 3 REV's and not had a single problem. My 04 MXZX 600HO has 2300 trouble free miles on it. The ring problem is not as widespread as the internet leads one to believe. BRP has a 1000 V-twin four stroke available in their Legend. (geezer sled). Puts out about 85 hp and I hear it's very reliable.
