Default anybody elses prarie make this noise?

I have an 03 p650 with about 800 miles on it and really like everything about it. it does however have a continuous clunking sound when at idle in any gear. it sounds like the motor is falling apart or something but is actually coming from the tranny somewhere. The dealer said a bushing for the drive clutch is a little loose and some of them left the factory like that. Has anyone heard of this or have the same sound from your machines, the dealer said it wont hurt anything but a few more opinions are always good, thanks.

If it is the noise I am thinking you are hearing, then Yes, this is Normal. My '02 P650 did it & so did my '03 P650 & the '03 was a bit noiser over the '02.
Interesting, my '04 Cat 650 VTwin & my present '05 Brute Force 750 do not have this Noise.
I was told the Noise is coming from the Drive Pulley Clutch.

I had the same noise. I just finished fixing it and no more noise and clutch works better. Replace bushing 92028-1975 on the sheave and the end plate, the same color that is on it now, and check all the shoes. 7.4mm or .291. Make sure that they are in spec. and all of the movable parts, weights and shafts.

I didn't buy the tools because it was too much, so i brought it to the dealer, it was alot cheaper(15$) to break it loose and after I changed everything and checked all of the movables, I brought it back so the could tighten it up. The spider is very hard to break so I let them do it, they have done it a few more time than I have. The shoes on the 02 is 7.5mm .295 as the 03 is 7.4mm .291 another thing that you might do is take a scotch brite pad and brush up the contact area on the clutch.

What about the bolt removal??? it looks like the book shows a puller or something to remove it once it's loose.THere also is a pulley holder.Did you just replace all the shoes too???

I thought that you were talking about taken the clutch apart. Yes you will need a puller, I bought one from EPI, sorry about the confusion I would replace the shoes only if they needed to be, dealer price around 11$ each and Ron Ayers is around 8$
