Default DG3 on '02 P650 with old ignitor or go with Dyna?

I've been trying to decipher all the posts here concerning the DG3. Sounds like if I have an '02 P650 with the older ignitor (i do), I will be giving up some potential performance compared to having the newer ignitor. Just how much difference is there between the old vs. the new ignitor when using a DG3? I know the Dyna is more expensive, but that would solve my old ignitor "problem". Bottom line question is this...is it worth spending the extra bucks for the Dyna when you have an '02 model that only has muffler mods?

Thanks in advance

Hey alisonsandmindysdad, while I personally don't have first hand on experience with the module you mention, I've looked at the NYROC site and it is highly recomennded. I also see that you have my coveted ride, the P300 4x4...

Default DG3 on '02 P650 with old ignitor or go with Dyna?

I read Nyroc's site (many times ) and he said that I would get great performance on my '02, but not as pronounced as I would if I had an '03 ignitor. Which makes me wonder if I need to just spend the extra bucks and get the Dyna in the first place. Sounds like I can't compare what I'll end up with on my '02 with what everyone is experiencing with their '03 P650, 700s and BFs. I have scanned the posts, but can't find anything that addresses the '02 ignitor issue with the DG3.

Does anyone know what the difference is between my older ignitor and the new ones. Is it timing only or spark duration, etc.?

I don't no much about the dg3 other than I no they don't sell it anymore because they made a dg5. I just put it on a brute and it is scary until you get used to it. I don't know if it is also for yours or not, you will have to ask them probably.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at old info when I typed in DG3. I'm thinking I want the DG5 because of the switch anyway. The last thing I need is one of my daughters to flip the thing over backwards.

how are you doing alisonsandmindysdad?

the cdi on the late 03 is alot better than the 02 ones we have, but to put an 03 cdi on our early 02p we would have to change the wiring harness. because they have different cdi plugs, and i think the dash console is different to.

the dyna works great on mine. the only different from a dg product and the dyna cdi is this.
1. the dg 3,5, 22, 84 (LOL) does not raise you max rev limit. the cdi does.
2. the dg3 does not give you more timing. the cdi does
3. ive read many posts that ppl did timed runs (like kod) and there were only small gains. so its up to you.
4. you could put a switch on the dg3 and turn it off, just in case to let you wife or kids ride it. you wouldnt have to worry about them flipping it over.

hey alisonsandmindysdad

The only reason I went with the DG3 and the flywheel key instead of the CDI
Is cuz the 02 CDI only works with the 02 and not any other model without wiring changes
Just like deer chooper stated.....Just something to think about come trade in time

I got the DYNA. Check out my mods. If I switch the Dyna to My friends stock 02 650. He can beat me 3 bikes in 300 ft drag if Im running the stock CDI with the DG holeshot module. With the Dyna and my mods its no contest against an 02 650.

So far the second DYNA unit I got has performed flawless. Low gear-Scary, torque! Blip the throttle too far on take off in low gear and she'll flip. Hold the throttle pinned in high, on takeoff she'll flip. The Supertrap IDS and Penlan Cams Sounds like a heavy hitting small block chevy at 5-10MPH.

Try my setup/mods on your 02 prairie. You'll have a Cheshire cat smile every time you nail the throttle. I've Gotten her up to 64-67MPH with stock 650 belt and I weigh 260+. You'll just have to re-learn using the thumb throttle in moderation.
