Default Need Lakota Help

Whats up everyone. I need to do something with my lakotas performance and I need some advice. First, a little background. Its a 99 bought in 98, new clutch and the only mods are a DG krome power exhaust and jetting. I dont race it but like to get out on the track and go as big as I can but most of the time go too big and bottom the frame out even when the shocks are set as stiff as possible. Also I would like to go faster than 45 mph. Maybe it was cause I was younger, but I thought I used to lift the front wheels off the ground when shifting. I guess what I want is to not bottom out and to have more power. I would love to get a KFX 400 but between a family, truck mods and this, I would have a better chance of putting a couple hundred in this. Please help me have fun again...HAHA Thanks

.. a 250R rear shock is a straight bolt in- with minor grinding and enlarging some bolt holes of course. For power- have you ditched the air box? The front shocks oughta be OK with a decent rear shock- it's that rear that's overly soft...

What will getting rid of the airbox do and how do I do it. And the shocks I would have thought was the opposite cause when I land the front wheels hit the fenders hard at full preload, but how much does a 250r shock run.

.. Wow- the fronts bottom! you must really be flying high or the shocks have just seen better days.as far as ditching the airbox is done by removing everything. No doubt you've probably surmised already that the box breathes to the side thru the filter then up thru a snorkle that ends by the handle bars, you may need to leave this intact if you ride mud/ water conditions, because when everything is gone the carburetor is left exposed- the intake snout is then covered by a pod type filter. A 250R shock can be found on ebay for about $200 depending on condition.

Hey airforcelakota, if you are bottoming out your shocks that much than i would look into new shocks before anything. You will be shocked how much new shocks would help out with perfromance if you have them set right. If i were you i would get the 250r shock like kwackermann said, which i am doing but have not found the right shock i'm looking for. Also i would get works perfromance shocks in the front they run about $350 for both two. I hear that removing the airbox help out a lot to so you might want to do that to because it's cheap and you gain a good amount of power from it.

Ok Im going to look into a good set of shocks. Is there any other "cheap" engine mods that I can do other than the airbox. Its pretty dusty riding in texas and like you said, it wouldnt have any protection.
