04 p700 reset quirk

I have a 2004 p700. I have needed to reset the limp mode switch 3 times. Following the reset procedure per nyrocs website, the 04 reset procedure would not work. I needed to do the 03 reset procedure. I did this three times with the same result every time. what's going on here?

i had to reset it due to the switch being tripped. I flipped the switch and reset it and it worked fine. my question is why do I have to use the 650 2003 reset procedure when I have a 2004 700?

it might have the late 03 system and titled for 2004. that about all i can tell you on that.
everytime you reset it do you have to put the belt switch back? if so then you might have to tighten your belt.

deerchooper, you raise an interesting point. two of the three times my switch was tripped, one time it was not. the first time was when the bike was brand new, only driving it for 1/2 hour and the last was about a week ago, I now have 1300 miles on it and the belt is kind of loose, probably needs to be tightened. both of the times when the switch was tripped was when i was going from high traction to low traction, ie going from dirt on high speeds to ice. when the bike moved from dirt to ice the back wheels starred spinning fast, I think mabey the belt vibrated and hit the switch, I'm not so concerned with this but it does make me curious, mabey a loose belt? I never measured it yet, it dosen't chirp on take off like my 650 did when it had aloose belt. what do you mean I might have a late 2003 set up what are you talking about? also when i had to reset it with the switch not triped like you had mentioned does kind of make me wonder. any more suggestions on these two questions

Mine started doing the same thing and it wouldn't go away with a tightened belt. My belt was out of spec. at just 101 hrs. I put a new Dayco belt on and that seemed to fix it. BTW my switch was never tripped.

what im saying about the 2003 system is, your bike was probably built in late 2003. they probably had left over wiring,cdi and stuff left over. when they built it it was intended to be a 2004 (which they titled it 2004) and used some of the 2003 stuff that they had left over. thats why you have to use the 2003 belt procedure, maybe.
i changed my belt at 1800 miles, but you need to keep checking on the belt deflection. in that period i shimmed it 3 times to get the belt at the proper specks. you might have a loose belt that need a little attn. just because it doesnt squak doesnt mean its not loose. like you said before (grip to spin) you might have the rubber band efect going on. when you hit that certian speed or rpm and let off the belt has room to go higher and trip your switch. i have 2000 miles on mine now, i can here the belt squeak with it in gear and at idle. it is just a little bit on the tight side, but today i was still able to get it to squak when taking off (i was stoped trying to going up a hill dragging my boys around today) snow.

sometimes if the belt justs taps the switch is enough to trip it. If your switch is being tripped it's a belt clutch adj problem and a perfect opportunity to get some nice springs in there. Now you can by pass that switch but I wouldn't until you get it checked out. Make sure you don't turn the key on when the belt cover is off then.
