Prairie 700 questions
#1
Hi - I'm new to the forum and I'm thinking about buying a new Prairie. I'm a long way from the dealer and I'm wondering how much maintence work it'll need.
How often do the valves need to be adjusted?
How are the belts holding up? Are they hard to change?
How reliable are they?
Thanks!

The prairies are very reliable machines. Not many problems with them in general. I have a 360 and works perfect and the belt is great at over 110 hours. The secret is to leave them in low as much as possible. later

My valves haven't been adjusted and I have over 2,000 miles on her.
The belt holds up good. If you need to adjust it, there is a website by nyroc that shows you exactly how to do it and also how to make a spring compression tool for $4 that you will need. It's not hard to do with nyroc laying it out for you on his site.
Also you will want to get a maintenance manual ~$45.
Mine has not even come close to breaking down or conking out on me under some tough conditions. I have a full maintenance done on it every winter....I could do it, it's not hard to do, I just don't want to.
Good luck.

I am not sure if this helps you but Artic Cat dealers and Suzuki dealers have the tools and books on the prairie drive train since both of those brands also sell the drive train in there quads. So since the warranty is only 6 months, after that its on you it does not matter were you take it. Service items like oil changes valves clutch work are maitenace items not under warranty anyway, and are on you. So if you have a suki or ac shop thats more closer to home take it to one of them and save ourself some gas and drive time.
