Default Shock absorber canister problems?

Just bought a 2002 Kawi 650 before christmas and have decided it was the best christmas gift to myself ever. Problem is that on the rear suspension there is a shock absorbing canister that is filled with some oil and compressed air and it is leaking. I have talked to the dealer he feels it is the o-rings in the canister, but I have talked to some buddies with the same bike and no one has ever heard of the problem. I thought it was a freak but my uncle bought the mate to it a week before I got mine and he is having the same problem, the bike wants to bounce when you hit a bump just like the normal shock is gone. The dealer thinks the cost for the o-ring kit will be around $100 and $80 to install, just wondering if anyone else has had trouble with this on the 650's and what they have done or if there is a kit you know of. I really don't think I should be having trouble with only 2700 klm. Thanks!

Yes, this does occur on a few Prairies. There is a guy on another forum who will rebuild it for you for approx. 100 bucks or so which is a LOT cheaper than buying a new rear shock. I'll send you a PM with the details.

Happy trails...
