I would like to know the difference between the DG5 and the HL modules. I do not like that HL does not want this discussed on their site... if theirs is the best whats to hide?

I like to ride the Mississippi river "bluff trails" between Winona & Wabasha, along Highway 61 ( Trout Valley, Snake Creek, & Stockton )... those are the best areas close to me... there is a very small area over by Trimont, & I've been to the 180 acre ATV park in Waterloo Iowa... never been to the area up by Fairbault...
I'll go out on a limb here publicly on these modules... the DG-5 has a small micro processor that if I understand correctly, is supposed to make the module kick on quicker, & last longer than a standard module like High Lifters... ( I do know that High Lifter expiriemented with several module frequency's, on their dyno, before releasing their unit... & I believe they have the best single frequency module available, as far as performance is concerned... ( the DG-5 uses multiple frequency's )... in theory, the DG-5 is better... but in real world testing, the differences can barely be noticed using drag strip timers ( driver reaction time make more difference )...
I personally use a Dyna CDI, but this is because my motor long ago left the ranks of normal, & I can really use the advantages that the CDI offers... most motors that are internally stock, can make good gains per $$$ with the modules... but if you find that you ride even reasonably often at WOT... the CDI's will offer that extra few mph at top end...I haven't personally witnessed a bad Dyna CDI... I hear rumblings of some bad ones out lately, but have never personally witnessed one, or personally know anyone that had a bad one, past the 1st release problems last year... even then, they will warrenty them with no questions... I'm also waitin g patiently for the VDI, CDI to be released ( this summer )... it is supposed o be programable... which will help me with the various types of competition that I do...
In the end... all are good units... & good manufacturers... choose the company that you like best, & be confident that you'll be happy ( as long as you are comparing modules to modules, & CDI's to CDI's )

Dont talk about the dg5 on HL's site. If you do, you will get a nasty PM from the sales manager. He acts like there forum is for exchanging info but you better talk only about HL's stuff. If you cant keep track of which products you can talk about and which you cant you'll get in big trouble over there. When I first researched this module stuff, I found most all of them out there including the icm, are just like the old dg holeshot, 3 wires, low end only, etc. It looks like they just copied the holeshot and added $10 to the price. I saw one a while back and they even hide the electronic stuff? That tells me something right there. I haven't seen anything out there like my dg5 which is odd cause you can see inside all the electrical parts. maybe it's to hard to copy. well worth the extra $30 to me.

The dg5 does more than low end. When I raced someone with it off, both stock brutes were even, with it on I pulled ahead about 20 ft right away and kept pulling away to about 60mph. It looked like he was staying with me then but it was hard to tell with him so far back there. I have raced a dyna cdi brute the same way and whoever get the holeshot gets ahead a length or 2 and then we were even to 65mph. Mine tops at about 69mph on the speedo if you can take the front tire shaking. He said he can go 71mph with enough room to get there. I expected the cdi to pull ahead of me but it really didnt seem to make much difference except for the 2mph on top. It does plug in but everyone I have seen with one is afraid it will break and they all carry the old stock cdi with them? I saw an HL module on a prairie. From what he said, it only works to about 15mph or so and thats what they told me when I called HL. I talked to the engineer at Diamond G about the dg5 and dg6, but only got sales people at HL. I think they just import the icm from some other country and all there tech people know is how to hook it up? If you are as cheap as I am, you will want the best for your money which is not always the cheapest one out there.

Raptor01,
All modules change the low end timing aflter 1000 rpm with a module the timing is bumped to 28*. If you install a red spring from EPI takeoff rpm is changed to roughly 3500 rpm where all advantage of a module is negated, no more advantage. Modules only help on the low end all modules no difference. The OEM cdi can only output 28* no more and the module bumps to that timing ramp along with a red spring from EPI. EPI spring is what $20. If you look at my pics you will see the guts of a module have someone go to Radio Shack and build one for you maybe $10 it is up to you there are options.
