I believe ATR stands for all terrain radial. The holeshot tread has great grip which is, I suppose why so many racers use Holeshot tires. The radial construction helps keep the tread flat on the ground instead of rolling over or plowing like some tires. A couple years ago Dirt Wheels magazine did a comparison on a Prairie 650 between the stock tires and the Holeshot radials. They really like the way the radials increased control in the corners. They had significantly faster times on the test course with the radials.

I just got my Big Horns and yes they are expensive but I like them better than ATRs. They don't hook up as good in hard pack but I can power slide easier and I can't beleave how smooth they ride. I don't know how they do it, the side walls are stiffer and thicker than the ATRs but they ride smoother at the same air pressure (7lbs.). Maybe the rubber compound? The Big Horns also have a lighter steering effort which is saying something because the ATRs had a light effort also, and due to the narrower front tire it does not throw the mud on the bike as much. The main reason I switched was durability the ATRs are a great tire but here in all these rocks I needed a tougher tire I had a good many flats with the ATRs but if you ride where there is not many rocks the ATRs would make a GREAT tire because I don't think you could find a tire that hooks up as well at any price.

I'd go with the ATRs, they are the best riding hard pack tires out there....some on the suggestions above like the Big Horns also will work well, just as long as they solved their out-of-round problems...
