when should I rebuild my top end 300 prairie

Find out the specs for your cam & inspect, Adjust your vallves, and do a compression/leakdown check.
If your compression is good, starts good, valves good, does not smoke blue smoke, keep driving it. All engines wear different and a s long as you keep the oil changed reguarly, perform periodic maintenance, and don't abuse your engine, you engine will last a long time.
