Good guess. Your problems might be all related. Check following:
1). Check for fuel contamination by drainin your engine oil.
2). Check choke plungers are REALLY closed when choke **** is at OFF position.
3). Check carb float valves for any sticking.
4). Check function of your 1-way check valve at the fuel tank vent.
5). When engine is not starting (when just clicks and not turning over), remove spark plugs (both) and try to crank. Wear goggles and see what might come out of spark plug holes.
By the way, what gas mileage are you getting?
Good Luck.

50 Kms is about 31 US miles. Your 650 has a claimed 4.5 gal fuel tank before reserve. Assuming you topped it off before riding and you rode until it ran out of gas, you got 31/4.5=6.9 miles/gal. I don't know how you ride and what condition your bike is, but my 700 gets any where from 15 to 25 miles per gallon depending on how I ride. Do the things I wrote above, and read your plugs as well.
Good Luck.

Man you have bad fuel milage... I get about 120km plus when pushing it to the limit. Alot of my driving is mixed from fire roads to trails to mud. The way yours sounds it must have the choke stuck half on and flooding itself constantly??? Whats the exhaust look like? Do you shut off your fuel when bike is sitting? Are you running in Low range all time? Must be something? My machine can be tricky at times.. Ya kinda got know when to choke it or not.. and when she idles down from high idle shut choke off.. Try using a tank of High Octane fuel through it and see if you have better milage.. Thats all my bikes ever had.. Hope you find the problem..

lol..yeah i know im getting fuel milage...and i also use high test gas..thats all i ever used in all my bikes..on most of my bikes i had i could tell if the choke is stuck on. but i did read somewhere, about a faulty choke cable on the earlier bikes..maybe your right and could be the problem...i shut my gas off when not in use...i hardly ever drive in low gear...i never go anywhere to use it..

I have a bad fuel milage too ! I have a p650 2003 (buy in 2005). I can run only about 70-80 km with my Kawi. I think is very bad but i dont have check if i have any problem with my choke. I also turn my air screw (under de carb) 2.5 turn and still running better. If i solve fuel problem i write to you.

What kind and size quad do you have?

I get about 85 miles per tank on my P650, and that's riding it hard at high altitude. Don't know about my P700 yet, but it's not as good.
