Hey guys,, just wanted to fill you in on my ongoing dillemma with a bad Kawasaki dealer/service center (Clearlake Kawasaki in Webster, TX) that I am having. I called the dealer in regards to some recalls that I found online. They ran my VIN# and told me that I needed to bring in the bike so they could perform two recall items. One was to replace some bolts on the lower A-arms and the other was to replace the drive belt. They kept the atv for one week and performed both recall items. They then told me to come pick up the atv and take it home. Well, yesterday I received a call from the dealer telling me that Kawasaki came back and rejected the recall on the price of the belt, but not the labor to install the new one and that I needed to come in and pay for the belt myself. I explained that I have a problem with that because I never asked them to replace anything,,,,, they were just performing recall work on their own initiative. I do all of my own maintenance on my bike,,,,,, if I were to replace my own belt, I would have found one on e-bay for about $20 and replaced it myself. The guy on the phone then said that I must come up to the dealer and pay for the belt. I, once again, told him that I am not paying for the belt and that he needs to take it up with Kawasaki. He then said my only other option was to take the bike to him so that he could remove the belt and replace it with "an old belt". At that point I told him that he was crazy and hung up on him.
Do any of you guys have any advice on how to handle these guys???? I looked them up on the Better Business Bureau and they have an unsatisfactory rating based on their parts/service dept. I thought about filing another complaint with the BBB to add to their list. Or am I in the wrong, and should I just pay them for the belt??? It has become more of making a point to me than actually paying the bill. Experiences like these unfortunately reflect poorly on Kawasaki as whole in my eyes,,,,,,, no telling how many other people that they have ticked off. Thanks for your advice.

ask them for the phone number of the person at kawasaki to talk to them about the recall so you hear from them what they are paying for.
and if he says he cant give you the number then tell him you cant pay him.
and if he says anything else the him to take you to court.
or pi$$ up a tree.
what ever feels best at the time.
and yes i would tell the bbb on them if they give you to much of a hard time.

While we are on the topic of bad service departments, I would like to mention Cycles and More in Lake Charles, LA. When I first bought my bike the belt deflection I guess was set incorrectly and it tripped the limp mode at about 5 hours on the bike, I took it in and that said that I need a new belt and it was not covered under warranty, so I ended up paying $135 for new belt and labor. Well I got the belt from them and took it home and check in service manual overlooked belt and belt is within all specs. Long story I now have the belt as a spare. Second time to the dealership the front plastic on the handlebar cover broke, they tried to tell me that I had flipped the bike, yet the only thing wrong with the bike was the plastic, so after a few calls to Kawasaki, and a long battle with the dealership it was covered. The straw that broke the camels back was last week, I ordered some tools take the pulleys off and a spring compressor and some other special order tools, $260 worth of tools from Kawasaki, well they came in and when I arrived to pick up the tools the service manager told me that I can not have the tools that they sold to me because I was told that when they bring up tools they are at dealer cost because they don't sell many to public so then on top of dealer cost she said I was also given my 10% discount for buying my bike there, so she said that I got them for under dealer cost so she could not give them to me. Well it made me pretty mad so I just left and then come to find out I only needed the spring compressor that was $55. So anyway nothing but bad service OHHH one more when I bought my bike last April the salesman promised me a winch for $69 when they run it. Well come time and he didn't come through. I am not the only one who has had problems, left fill cap off my Uncles motorcycle when he took it in for first service and oil spilled all over bike, they screwed plug in and didn't make any effort to clean the bike up, that was after they messed up my cousins boat after replacing distributor cap. BAD SERVICE BEWARE!!!!!!!
I just moved over from Lake Charles a couple of years ago,,,,,, and I am familiar with the dealer that you are speaking of. It is ashamed that there is nobody within Kawasaki that we can go to when we have problems like this........ If I do find someone, I will post their contact information. By the way,,,,,, thanks for the advice Mudblaster.....

Look at my pictures you can make the secondary spring removal tool for less than $15 and can buy the primary removal bolt/tool for around $35 from ritter cycle racing. Shims are around $5 each at dealer or ronayers.com
