Default Prairie Qustions.........

Thanks. I've already experienced the 'normal' gear drive and think that the CVT is something I'd like to experience. To be honest with ya, I was eyeballing a Prairie 400, but kinda thinkin' that the Dalton and other spring makers don't carry stuff for this model, or if stuff fron a 650 would fit, blet springwise. Well- I've got a house to sell first and a 1,300 mile journey to make B4 I can think of these things. Thanks for y'alls input, anything else anyone might think of to throw in, by all mean- please do.........

Default Prairie Qustions.........

In general from personal experince and from belonging to several forums it seems the average life is about 2000-2500 provded the machines is not abused by pulling or running in high when they should use low. Some say they adjust there's from time to time, I myself just change them when they start to slip, its not hard and when not abused I have got over 2000 miles out them without tuching the cover. much less adjusting it. I have three of them and this has been a very reliable trans for me. The one belt I have had to change was from abuse at 1500 miles I pulled a load that was way to heavy and I had to pull it up extream grades over 35 miles. The 700 OEM belt is said to be the best and I have been very happy with it.

The P650 belts are not made anymore....they were not very good, and imo a bad rap has been put on P700 belts because the rappers are confusing the two belts. The P700 belt is very strong and long lasting.

Kawi trannies are said to be noisy because of the square cut gears. Belt noise is from being too tight, too loose or bad primary bearing. I have dented the hell out of all my rims and plates from hitting rocks too hard....no cvt problems, just operator problems.

On my P650, I changed belts twice....once because the 650 belt was squealing on takeoff (too loose, stretched), and once again 1700 miles later just because I had nothing better to do that day (didn't want any problem on the trail as the belt was getting a bit long in the tooth).

Come back after your move....will have more info by then.

kawiyowee does make a good point about the 650 belt VS the 700 belt. I had the 650 belts on mine (first year Prairie) and I have heard the 700 belts lasts/works MUCH better. I wont stay away from the machine just over the belts, it is a fun ride with a lot of power. Mine had realiabilty "issues" on several planes but every machine made can and does. Overall I think they do seem like a decent machine and with avg. realiability.
