Recently my 2003 prairie with 400 miles on it has been kind of difficult to get into and out of 4x4. Sometimes it takes 50 feet of slow level riding for the 4x4 to engage or disengage. I also noticed sometimes when it comes out of 4x4 I hear a clunk noise like gears grinding. This just started happenning in the last week, its always been pretty good about going in and out. Could the actuator motor be going bad, I do a fair amount of mudding so it has its time under water. I am really good about cleaning the whole machine after riding.

Check the oil in the front diff, it may have gunk in there making the actuator work harder.
