I would think the easiest way to get it out, provided you can walk to it (no matter how rough the ground), is to wrap it as well as possibile and wait a few months and get it with a large sled on the snow --- possibly hauled by a snow machine but if not a couple of guys on snow shoes with a good sled should be able to move it.....

guys talk about responsibility of this. he is on line, showing picts, and offering the title to anyone willing to get to it. this is responcibility. he is offering directions, and pictures. i know if he does this enough, someone who needs the engine, or wants to salvage this, will go get it. he,s allready out thousands of dollars, it would be a shame to see him also spend thousands more on a chopper. just my 02

Hello,
By coincidence, my friends and I are going to camp and ATV up at the White Pine/ Pitkin area for about 6 days starting this coming Friday (8/19). Have you got a map of where the ATV is? I doubt if we will be equipped to get it out, but I'm sure that we could go take a look just to make sure.
Sorry for your luck,
Lorrin

mich660griz, Is absolutly correct. That is exactly what I am trying to do is get it out of there by offering it for free to fokes that are better equipped to get it than I or my dad is. I also relize there are allot of guys out there that have more experince and are in better shape when it come to working it this type of altitude and terrane. There is an old restored bronco or was a restored 60's bronco laying in multiple peices down in the same area the quad is. There is also tons and tons of mine equip. abandonded all over these mountains. Thats what we all go around looking at. I don't think this little quad is going to have any real impact on the environment. Who knows a 100 years from now if lnow one has been able to get it, then maybe it will be a point of intrest. LOL
I am almost sure it will be recovered pretty soon. I have recieved e-mail and PM's from several fokes interested in getting it. As of yet know one has asked for a bill of sale and title/MSO. I am sure it won't be there much longer.
Leelorr, I will be back out there this weekend also, on a buddy trip rather than a family trip. We are planning on riding the Taylor res. area friday, and my buddys and I will be going up to the Downed brute on saturday. We still do not have the equip or expertice to get it out but I already know they want to see it. So pm me if you and your group are wanting tag along with my group. There is going to be 3 of us but I also know we still won't be able to get it out. None of us even own a winch.

This is my point exactly. It has to be removed from the area no matter what the cost. Good job on getting guys up there with you to take a look and see if it's possible without a lot of cost but the point remains that it still needs to be taken out of there. I agree that it's kind of like a kick in the nuts to lose your wheeler and then have to fork out a bunch of coin on top of that, but you still gotta do what you gotta do. Those bean sprout eating tree huggers will take all the ammo they can get!!

The tree huggers will find somthing to b!tch about no matter what. Renting a helo and crew is not going to happen. It will stay where it is at before that happens. I could see a helo lift costing 20 grand easy, no way is that going to happen. The tree huggers can rent a chopper if it botheres them that much. Its not mine and I was not riding it. I am just trying to help my dad out and possably some fellow atv fokes that might benifit from the parts or looking for a fixer upper. ORV' s and sleds are this area's main draw for tourism, and tourism is the only thing driving the economy in this area of colorado. I realy doubt this atv is going to have any impact what so ever on the enviroment or the status of the trail systems.

cc1999,
I PM'ed you about possibility meeting up Saturday to go up to the site.
I had to tell my two sons that they couldn't take my ATV up there today to take a look. They're young enough to think that it would be easy, and I don't want them losing mine down the same ravine so that they can learn a lesson.
Take care,
Lorrin
