If you use LOW range when doing all pulling and never pull in reverse and always use low when going slow and in mud and hill then the belts do great , I have over 1000 miles on my BF750 running 28" with no problems , I have owned tons of belt drive ATVs and the Kawies do great , The polaris wear belts a lot more than the kawies do but Yamahas have the best setup for belt life.

800 k.m and my belts done, were not sure yet if it just came yet the dealers trying to figure it out now. i used low at low speed's but i did tow others out in reverse once in a while. i left it in high in the occasional mudhole's
It left me stranded in the canadian wilderness once again.

I just smoked a belt from doing some heavy hauling after only 10 miles/2 hours on the machine. When you drive into mud and get stuck, you normally try to back out first before you totally unload the trailer. It took less than 2 seconds for the damage to the belt. Neither my dealer or Kawasaki will cover it as a defect. They consider it normal wear. It was the second time I used the machine. The dealer knew I was pulling trailers of firewood each year in the fall and needed a good utilty ATV. I still have my '87 350 Big Bear (5-speed manual) that is a bit under powered, but will haul the wood in. Anyone looking for a like new (only 11 miles) '05 650 Brute? I am thinking Honda, (not CVT tranny). I like all the other features of the BF, it's just not to be used for heavy work.

I don't think there is any magic number for miles or hours or years that you change out a belt. It all depend how you use the machine. I only got 10 miles on my new 650 when my belt was trashed, so anything can happen. You can periodically inspect the play on the belt. Too much play will allow the belt to slap the belt light switch, then you will normally be able limp home at no more than 15 MPH. I would keep a spare belt around, cause you will most likely eventually need it. I've seen after market (Dayco) belts as little as $29 on the internet (mfgsupply.com). Dealers are up about $90 just for the belt. Learn how to reset the belt check light if you need to. Older models, I understand, you merely reset the switch under the cover.
