Default Tecate 4- How rare?

Hi,
I am looking at getting something a little more fun and less rough than the bayou 185 next summer, and am curious, how rare is a Tecate 4 250? How much could I expect to find one for? I did see in a newspaper that a ham radio award I won was in 2 '87 tecate 4 250's; 1 with low compression but running, and one running great and driving. $800 for both. Too bad I am not in Maryland, or anywhere close. But, what would my chances of finding one be? How about a parts one to repair? How much could I expect to pay? Is it a 2 or 4 stroke?

Yes thay are a 2 stroke. Parts are hard to find. If it starts to run out of gas it will race the motor and it will not shut off evan with the toggle switch. You can expect to pay $2200 to $3200 I hope this helps you.

$800 for both? Horrible, don't even talk to the seller.

Ummmmm what is his number by the way???!!!!!!!!

The Tecate-4 is a "little" more fun than your 185 like a Ferrari is a "little" more fun than a 1978 Ford station wagon. The Tecate-4 was the fastest 250cc quad ever and hit a radar verified 75+ mph. It is a brute, but parts are hard to find these days. At that price however, you can't lose, just find a good mechanic for restoration. Then sell one, ride the other. But you better hold on! Much faster than what you are used to.

Well, I want something cheap and durable that actually has shocks in back. What could I find? I really love the look of the tecate.

And, the problem is that Maryland is half across the country for me.

Hey what's up bro? It's been a while since I've logged onto this board but I can give you some input on the tecate issue. Click the link on my profile to see pics of my tecate. They are very rare in good condition. The tecate will rip your face off. The only thing I've ridden faster is a modded banshee. Parts for the tecate can be found if you know how to use google

The thing I love about my bike is rolling up to a riding spot and people asking what it is that I'm riding. Then the look on their faces as the roost rolls off the back tires after I tell them.
