comet clutch installed
#1
OK guys heres the lowdown--finally got the comet installed on the 360 this evening--I recieved the clutch last week but one of the weight pins was wrong and I couldnt install it--e-mailed comet on monday and I recieved the new pins today--It had been reported that when installing the comet on the 360P, that the comet was a little larger and that you would need to grind some spots on the engine case to make it fit--It is bigger--fortunately I have an angle grinder and three spots needed to be ground slightly--Probly could of did it with a dremel also--no big deal but took a couple of minutes.
Just went out for a quick ride (temp here is about 15 degrees) and didnt notice any major increase or decrease in performance--runs about the same except that it now engages at a higher rpm from a standstill--it kinda grabs now instead of a smooth takeoff--not sure if this is normal or if I can tune that out with a different primary spring--I e-mailed comet with the above letter also. Anyone know about fine tuning one of these clutches?? I am not exactly sure what effect the primary spring has, but I would be willing to try another if I know which way to go on it--comet sent me a pink primary, and I am running a black secondary from epi that i installed a while back

Rode the comet clutch all day yesterday and here are my observations---
1. I have been running for quite some time now with no shims in the secondary-my belt used to squeel at idle in gear but that has pretty much gone away the last 6 months or so--with the comet installed using my original belt, it has started squeeling pretty good again at idle with the tranny in gear--I think this is a good thing as it indicates my belt is tight-still no shims in the secondary.
2. The bike pulls harder and picks up quicker with the comet-not night and day but is better than before--I noticed no top speed increase, and maybe even lost a little speed on a long uphill-pulls strong just doesnt seem as fast--at one point last summer I was pulling my driveway hill at 31 mph, with the stock tires--with the comet yesterday and the new mudlights I was only able to reach 26mph
3. The comet came with the pink spring-my stock spring is exactly one half inch shorter than the pink--I put the stock spring in hoping to see a tremendous increase in low end, but it seemed to hurt performance at low and high end--so I put the pink back in
As i ride I will post any more info I can on the comet--It still engages at a higher rpm than the stock clutch and jerks a little upon starting--the comet is also a little noiser when disengaging, you can hear it releasing--
With the little bit of low end performance increase I am happy so far with the Comet
