Default PAIRIE 650 PROBLEM

I was out riding today when I was riding thru hub deep water. It had like pee gravel on the bottom. Anyway to get to the point. THe cv boot was torn either today or recently and now when I turn to the left (Left CV Boot) it jurks the handle bars straight and it makes loud clicking noises. I am figuring that a piece of pee gravel got inside the the boot.

I havent had time tonight to tear into it but do you guys know what I have to look forward to?

You have a big mess to look forward to. The CV boots are full of grease and it gets everywhere.
If it's to the point of making a loud "clicking noise" and binding, I see replacing a CV shaft in your future.

Yep grease is everywhere. But I already cleaned most of it up. I figured I have to replace some part of the cv. Is there any upgrades or maintenece I should do while I have everything apart?

Is it the inner or outer boot?? What all do you have apart?? Knuckle, entire shaft out??? Remove the clamps on the torn boot and slide it back. There is a snap ring inside the joint that has to be removed to pull the shaft free. Clean the grease out of the joint. If it is damaged you will see it plain as day. Check your brake pads while you have the wheel off.

You might want to check your wheel bearings also.

You will have to have the joint inspected either by yourself or someone else. Most larger cities have a place in town that rebuilds axles for cars.We do here in Indy. They also replace the boots for MUCH cheaper than the oem part itself. The easiest thing to do is take the steering knuckle loose and pull the entire axle out. There is a small keeper ring that keeps it in the differential.Once you get it out of the knuckle just give it a good tug and it will pull out of the differential.I would just take it somewhere and let them clean-inspect and replace the boot. The place here only charges $25.00 parts and labor for one boot.Usually the "kit" from the dealer is about $60.00.Its not that bad to do if you have any mechanical ability.Good luck

Does anyone know where I can get a new cv joint / axle. The dealer here is wanting $416 just for the parts.

If you can get me the numbers off of the outer cv joint I can rebuild it for around 125.00. This includes new inner parts, boots, clamps, grease. If you get me the year of your 650 prairie I can price you a new aftermarket cv axle that includes everything except the inner joint. I have found though the aftermarket new products are not as good of quaility as your oem axle. Everything is coming in on a slow boat from china. I am in Springfield MO. My name is John and if you want to call me my number is 1-800-701-axle (2953)
