Well, the difference is simple. The regular modules that cost around 100 bucks, like VDI's, only work from 0-7mph. They take away the low end lag that the manufacturer puts in the machine. The Copperhead for instance is a CDI. This gives you more power throughout the entire power band, and not just low end. Dyna also makes a CDI module. The VDI copperhead is suppost to get more mid range and top end than the DYNA, but it is also more expensive. Moose makes a module that is plug and play, and it is 100 bucks. If you are just looking to get rid of the low end lag, this might be the way to go. Otherwise, I would save up some extra cash and get the VDI. Hope this helps.

The Copperhead is a fully programmable MSD that allows you to customize two different timing curves. You can also get rid of the factory redline rev limiter, reverse rev limiter, limp mode, and low rpm detune that the factory programs into the ignition system. You can add or take away any of these options on both timing curves.
So, you can program the first curve with factory timing (5 degrees), take away the rev limiter in reverse, and override limp mode. Then on the other curve you can set the timing at 11 degrees for 87 octaine and override all safety features. The curves can be non-linear as well. So you can add 11 degrees at lower rpms, then go to 12 degrees at 3500 rpms, then back to 10 at 7000 rpms to allow for the rate that the engine builds revs. You can set the curve every 50 rpms if you like. You have to have the programmer to do this. The software runs on a pc with a usb port.
There is another post out there somewhere that has vids of a BF beating an Outi 800 and the only mod on the BF is a Copperhead. That tells me it's good for about 10hp.
