Why take it to a dealer? If you can take it off from the bike, you are probably capable to tell whether the actuator is good or bad. Apply 12VDC to red and blk wires and see if turns. If not, take 3 outer screws out and see if anything is jammed in the gear housing. Don't try to look inside the dc motor. It's little more complicated due to the potentiometer. If all good, apply good amount of grease on gears and put it back. If you are not getting 4WD, the next step is to check out the control unit and front diff gear box.

You may want to take out all of your Fuses too, clean them up, clean the fuse box holder, apply the di-electric grease (spark plug wire grease) to help keep moisure/dust from entering the fuses. This was my Problem on both of my P650s, not the Actuators. Once I took care of the Fuses, I never had another problem with the Actuators.(both of them)

I took it off and brought it to the dealer for them to test it and they said its pretty much shot. Anyone know where I can get it cheaper than $250.

Try Ronayers.com I thik it was around $200 there, I could be wrong, I should know I have bought 3 of them There's ways you can fix those, just depends on what is wrong, but you'd have to be somewhat electronics inclined...

I bought a brand new one from Ronayers b/c I was told the old one was shot, which it was not. I paid around $215 Bucks for it.
